  • I am an introvert. But I'd really prefer to have a five minute call to a text message conversation taking place over an hour. Organising plans with people is infinitely more painful over text messages than it is over a group call. Am I unique in this?

Edit: I do appreciate it when people text to ask if now is a good time to call, though.

  • Reminder: "separating the art from the artist" is an approach to engaging with an artwork, and is a separate question from whether or not you should engage with an artwork when doing so has real life consequences.

Whether or not you should consume HP Lovecraft media despite the fact he was a racist is entirely up to you because he is long dead. He doesn't make any money. He isn't even racist any more. Because he's dead.

When you consider whether or not you consume Harry Potter media, you must consider that JK Rowling will make money and will donate that money to anti-trans groups. If you still go on to buy licensed merch, or pay a streaming service to watch it, you will literally be helping to propogate transphobia. Continue to enjoy anything you currently own if you want. That is where separating the art from the artist comes into it. But if you still actively promote the material online and thereby increase the demand for it; again, transphobia, arguably.

  • I think there's a difference, though, between liking it in private, and talking it up publicly.

If someone still listened to their Lostprophets albums I'm not going to judge, but if they spent a lot of time posting about how much they loved and still love Lostprophets... that still feels a bit off.

  • The prevailing consensus is that the gospels of Matthew and Luke were cribbing from the gospel of Mark and a text that is lost to us that is referred to as Q. The gospel of John is original as far as we know.

Also, a lot of the Pauline epistles weren't even written by Paul.

  • Not quite the same. God (hypothetically) has their own plan, so if I pray for god to smite you, and they don't, then I can just say "well, I guess that's not God's plan". Whereas, if you believe in hexes and/or curses as something fundamentally different to a bog standard prayer, then presumably the hexer and/or curser has more agency over the result than that.

  • This is me with literally any movie that tries to get me to feel things. I'm pretty sure I have alexithymia.

Though sometimes I find myself thinking about a film weeks after I watched it, and I then it's like "I guess maybe I did like the film".
