  • They wouldn't.

My original point is that there's no additional financial benefit to the company by doing this. They don't win or lose financially.

People make these donations out to be some kind of financial scam. They're not. They're a perception scam, because the company can say "we donated X, aren't we great".

  • For me it was about time. Once I had kids, I no longer had time to dick around with an OS. It has to just work.

But that's why I switched back to Linux earlier this year. Now my games and hardware and apps all just work.

  • The current political climate is different than before. It not falls along the lines of empathy. I don't see how marriages survive that in a healthy way.

That isn't to say they'll all divorce. Divorce rates are very tightly coupled to economic well-being and children. But I do think a lot more people are staying in horrible marriages if their partner has no empathy.

  • Natively, you can't. Hackishly, you could put a small VPN capable router in front of it that would manage the connection.

That's according to Dr Internet, so I haven't tried it, but it seems very likely to be accurate.

  • This isn't correct.

If they get an extra million in these donations, they can deduct that extra million. It's a net zero improvement. It does not help them at all financially.

But it's free good will and they can advertise that THEY donated a bunch. It's just to make them look good.

  • You've basically just reinvented off shoring.

CEO don't just run company. Their job is also to determine strategy and work relationships to improve sales/donations. They should be hired wherever they can do that best.

  • I'm sure a roofer would gladly be willing to take over my job as well.

Do you think there are no requirements to being a CEO? Do you think you could do it? I'm wondering how deep this justice fantasy goes. Do you think we'd get a competent CEO at minimum wage?

  • I hate that people treat the US like a country. It's bad for statistics.

The cost of living in New Jersey is 50% higher than Alabama, for example, using the site you linked. Averages across the US are near meaningless.

Since I'm talking about tech jobs, we should compare to states with lots of tech jobs, and we might get a better comparison.
