I think its possible to do, I just gave up too soon. To get approval from my wife it has to be better than Spotify, and even if I got it to work, it just won't ever be better so I gave up for now.
Pretty much the only way I'll be able to replace it is if it enshittifies a lot more. Like certain record labels dropping out or something along those lines. She wants to use 1 single app for all her music and podcasts and at the moment, that can't be done well. Spotify has to do something dumb to Nerf its value proposition.
I've wanted to replace Spotify for years but have never been able to do it. Everyone here will suggest you just use Jellyfin, but that doesnt solve the discovery problem.
My idea was basically using spot-dl to download playlist and add them to my music library. But it would always break after a few days and the metadata was always all messed up.
I mean it all cones down to what features you use. For example, my kids live off smart collections, and in Plex you can pin them right to the home screen, and that experience is unified across TVs and tablets. You can't do that yet in Jellyfin yet.
I would absolutely switch if I didn't have kids though. I already tried. So many complaints and we went back to Plex. One day I will switch though when Plex goes belly up or gets bought its an inevitability.
You actually want a cloudfare tunnel if youre going to do that. It protects your real IP. Hosting a fediverse instance will draw attention to your real IP eventually otherwise.
Not only that, but Trump spent the last 8 years purging the republican party of disloyalist. The first term Trump met resistance by his own party. This time anyone left who would resist him is gone and anyone who wants to will just be removed shortly after.
Does anyone have any recommendations for migrating their Plex library over to Jellyfin? One day I fully expect to migrate over but when I do i want my full watch/listen history to come with me.
I used to ref basketball games for fifth graders when I was a teenager. The amount of yelling parents was crazy. Like guys, if I call everything we are never going to finish this game.
My wife and I use it to chat privately and I host synapse inside our LAN so im not federated. Works perfectly for that, but I've heard a lot of people have issues with large groups.
Yes I agree. I was just offering a counter to the statement that Vaultwarden isnt as safe as Bitwarden. They both are encrypted but my vaultwarden instance is a lot less likely to experience a breach than Bitwarden. The guys with real skill are going after Bitwarden not me.
Just to play devils advocate. Bitwarden.com is a much more valuable target. My instance is behind a VPN. I think its actually far more likely Bitwarden will have a breach similar to LastPass then I will. But I agree with you mostly.
Your not supposed to just trust it. Your supposed to test the solution it gives you. Yes that makes it not useful for some things. But still immensely useful for other applications and a lot of times it gives you a really great jumping off point to solving whatever your problem is.
How are you installing Signal? I installed it from their website and it was constantly throwing up messages about missing play store.
