  • I'm Cave Johnson, here to personally thank you for volunteering to test Aperture Science's brand new long range spacetime displacement device. Before we begin, there's 2 things I need to mention.

First off, there is a non-zero percent, closer to 90, chance that you will end up being a just a random arrangement of atoms after the test. Not in a philosophical way. Just an absolutely random heap of atoms sprawled across the testing chamber floor.

Second, I need to remind you that the waiver you signed is iron clad. You can thank the suits in legal for that.

    Now let's begin!

  • I'm sorry Hideo Kojima, I simply do not have enough free time to sit through a 6 hour documentary on pre Cold War era geopolitical tensions in between 20 minute gameplay sections.

  • Some linguists disagree and have recently begun accepting the existence of a fourth person point of view. Languages evolve, and I guess we'll just have to see if it catches on and becomes more widely accepted in the future.

  • Gotta make it longer than that. By the time 5 minutes is up they won't even be sure if it's real or not.

Give em a few years, just enough time that they're convinced it's permanent. Just enough time that their experience with paralysis seems like a fully separate part of their life, a distant dream. Just enough time that they start going most days without even thinking about the fact that they weren't able to walk at one point.

Then pull the rug out from under them.

  • Don't know if there's an equivalent community on Lemmy (and honestly I'm not sure I'd want to see it either way), but /r/QanonCasualties was one of the most depressing subs you would ever see.

Just pages and pages of people either desperately trying to free their loved ones from the clutches of right wing conspiracies or people seeking support after they accept that they're never going to deprogram their friends and family from cult-like brainwashing. Families torn apart. Marriages in shambles. Lifelong friendships broken.

An absolutely heartbreaking look into how much damage these psyops have caused to so many people.

  • The difference is that we as a first person plural is generally used for a more discrete group of people, but still from the perspective of a single narrator. Fourth person we is generally used for a collective of people with a shared perspective; there is no single narrator that is separate from the collective group, the entire group is there narrator. Fourth person is a concept that has only recently begun to be recognized as a distinct point of view.
