  • Trump again calls to 'replace' Obamacare, reopening a fight Republicans tried to close.

House Speaker Mike Johnson criticizes Obamacare and promises 'massive reform' if Trump wins.

Insurance companies aren't the ones in charge.

You may continue to believe one person's suffering is more important than another, and you can try to shout down anyone expressing any fears you personally don't "vibe" with. I'm not going to tone police you. But someday, you might find yourself needing to speak out, and I hope you meet someone like yourself when that happens. I'm sure you'll feel grateful to them.

  • You are going to be fine

You can't know that. If you don't want to hear people's despair, that's fine, block it. But don't pretend that has anything to do with some supposedly "fine" future -- just be upfront about the fact that you don't care. Might as well; uncaring people are doing pretty well for themselves these days.

  • My mother and sister will lose access to healthcare after the Republicans repeal Obamacare.

They will lose access to food aid when the federal entitlement programs are gutted.

Suffering is not a competition. Your broken leg doesn't heal my broken arm.

You find our laments annoying? Hold on sunshine, because we're just getting started.

  • Not totally related, but even though it's tempting to kick those cube-shaped HP MicroServers across the datacenter, they're actually a lot more dense than they look.

0 is the loneliest number :(

  • women tend to care more about the POLICY

Clearly the case with white women -- 52% of whom voted for Trump in 2016. He got 53% of white women this year.

They like his Supreme Court nominees, his support of abortion policy chaos with bans in some states threatening prison time for doctors and patients, his policy for separating migrant children from their parents, they seem to really love his pussy grabbing policy especially, and his offer to protect them whether they like or not, and I WISH I was trying to be funny here, but this is all literally true. White women love Trump.

  • I mean smug, condescending, and insulting his opponent worked for Trump. "She's a very stupid woman. Very low IQ."

  • "I just voted for it!"

  • For a long time, they didn't. The RNC was legendarily attacked by the Tea Party movement, by Trump during the 2016 primaries, and continued to be slated by MAGA up to the point it was wholly taken over by Trump.

  • Beating trump isn’t hard.

He won three out of four primaries, and two out of three general elections. It seems... pretty fucking hard.

  • Maybe it's the fact that America's national character is to lust for domination and revenge. Compassion cannot win because America despises it.

  • Thank you, I appreciate your encouragement! I'm still pre-learning, and trying to get my head around the terminology amongst other things. I've read Manufacturing Consent so far, but I'm happy for recommendations.

  • Just started getting into it over the last year, mostly due to meeting folks on Lemmy. I apologize if I'm talking out of turn, I'm just feeling a lot of despair at the moment.

  • Hopefully yes, but with reactionary hands in total control of every aspect of state power, what good will it do? We can all sit around and watch each other die in prison, I guess.

  • I mean, if someone lives in Texas (or a similar place) they can certainly try to create a tiny bubble of community in the middle of an ocean of drooling, hateful sadists that want to kill them. You may wind up searching for the rest of your life for even one like-minded person -- and if you put a foot wrong, you may find yourself in deadly danger instead. It might be better to run for your life, if you can.

  • Well I guess the good news is that it no longer matters if they learn anything? These election results make it clear that going forward they'll have about as much effect on lawmaking as a dead hamster. It's even possible that, except for serving as a convenient cardboard bogeyman, they'll otherwise cease to exist at all.

  • No, it will not matter. The national abortion ban will override this.

  • Well, given a choice between "self care" and "others' harm" I suppose...
