  • Infrastructure can be a real problem in some places.

I'm currently on a mountain and since they upgraded to a hybrid satellite/cable system the speeds have skyrocketed. Laying cable/towers is just not viable, especially with dense rock peaks blocking line of sight.

Also I have coworkers in Nigeria who lose internet multiple times a day (and often don't have the bandwidth for a video call) but most of them have bitten the bullet and paid the high up-front cost to get starlink at home. And now can do HD video calls with zero interruption (unless they have power issues, but that's a whole other thing).

So I think there's a lot of use-cases for sattelite, especially for people who aren't considered worth the investment in non-sattelite infrastructure.

It's just unfortunate that yeah, space junk is going to one day (suddenly) be a massive problem.

Edit: ah I may have replied to the wrong comment

  • Screwed is always relative.

I'm hearing chat that immigrants from places like Turkey or India are going "oh yeah this is what it's like back home".

So it's possible it just goes full neoliberal (i.e. no consequences or regulations for the rich) and the division of wealth grows even further.

Provided he doesn't cause a war or some kind of other mass-death problem (chemical spills, reactor meltdown etc) it might just have a cost primarily in human suffering, as opposed to human life.

  • The main thing stopping me is that I only use my PC for gaming, and I know the support for drivers etc isn't as good on Linux (though I know this is debated).

However if Linux became more centralised, with a "gaming first" distro like this, the graphics drivers would have a "main test case" to work with.

    This is my theory anyway.

  • Jerkoff

    Jump
  • For me now I think of it like a marvel movie.

This cop not shooting anyone is just like a man with superpowers swinging through the city on sci fi ropes.

    It's nice to imagine.

  • I mean, if he can away with it while not undermining his original intentions, why not do it?

There's various ways he could go unpunished that would prevent a retrial and so he'd then be set up to be influential in some kind of healthcare reform.

    Heavy on the cope though.

  • Haha ok well over Christmas I usually play KotOR one or two (with the big fan made mods and sometimes difficulty mods).

But this year I'm doing a Rogue Trader playthrough instead.

Also Stalker Gamma may make an appearance but that's a whole thing to set up (if you don't want to install mods etc).

In terms of Total War burnout I recommend trying the SFO mod (big overhaul of balance and mechanics) on WH3. It for sure breathes new life into the older factions.

And for some strategic top-down Real-time-with-pause fun, try Doorkickers or Doorkickers 2. Game 1 is older but a full release, whereas game 2 is at the end of a loooong early access, but it still my preference. Probably game 1 is <$10 though.

If you're still looking for something, just point me in a direction and I'll send more. This is my jam.
