  • Children of Ruin, by Adrian Tchaikovsky.

It's the sequel to Children of Time that won the Hugo award a few years ago.

Children of time may be the best science fiction book I've ever read (out of hundreds), and I've been devouring everything else by Tchaikovsky ever since.

The dude has range, and has been incredibly prolific over his career.

And the writing style is incredible. He makes incredibly complex concepts/plots very very easy to understand and follow.

  • I imagine it's more about discouraging any kind of official organising or institutional support/advertising.

Dangerous for politicians to promote it, or charities to give it resources/attention.

This keeps the scale of the boycott low enough to make less of a difference.

Also I guess it tries to shift those on the side of the ban to be the "moral authority".

  • I really believe that in the normal functioning of the court, that this would actually happen.

However I'm going to wait until the first dollar leaves his account before celebrating anything.

My partner says I'm not allowed to consider anything like this a success until he suffers an actual consequence.

Being issued a fine in this case is not yet a consequence.

  • He wasn't wrong to say those things, but it was really scary watching it.

Thinking "it's ethical that he do this, but what will it cost us?"

How many votes? How many fractions of a % of the total vote did this push away from Biden?

  • I also don't want to be marketed at. If it's good I'll find out organically.

And I don't want to find out about it at/before release-time. Because then I'll want to buy it on release.

That's the time the game is most buggy and least optimised (maybe also unbalanced too).

Complaining it didn't sell well enough on release is some real crybaby stuff as well.

"It didn't go exactly the best way I wanted it to go 😭😭"

  • For sure. My dog is a mutt so had a very low sticker-price indeed.

I wonder if it could be argued that I've invested a lot of money into him (via the vet)?

Though I suppose those were maintenance costs...

The training probably improved his value though. I wonder what monetary value could be put on it to get more attention for him from the police etc.

  • Combine this with the life extension technologies being worked on and there's some real potential for a really small group of people to just have everything forever.

When they have no use for us, they'll have no fear of a general strike.

    Then what?
