  • It’s a pretty simple “acknowledged” to me. It’s a “I’ve not just seen your message, I’ve read it, and I have no further comments”.

I don’t think I’ve ever interpreted it as rude.

  • For Darwin sake, everybody can read this, right?

First Trump showed Ukraine that he can make Ukraine lose without US support. This brought them to the table again.

Now he aims to show Russia that they can’t win when Ukraine has US support. Trump will support Ukraine with new weapons and even more intel, possibly with permissions to use US weapons in deeper strike missions. This coincides with Trump getting Ukraine to agree to a ceasefire position (that Trump still doesn’t understand Russia will never agree to).

This will go on for 4-6 weeks, then Trump will realise “math is hard, yo” and properly give up on an attempt, blaming Russia, Ukraine and/or the EU.

Then by end of 2025 the recent Trump induced EU panic that caused Europe to react will have created a rapid expansion of European capability and will. Then the US will exit and the war will go on for another couple of years.

  • 100%. Firefox would be better off, I suspect, by focusing on the browser, solely, and with a distributed global team that didn’t need a fancy SF office and fancy SF comp packages.

  • It obviously depends on where they live and/or committed the crimes. But most countries have broad laws against anything, real or fake, that depicts CSAM.

It both because as technology gets better it would be easy for offenders to claims anything they’ve been caught with is AI created.

It’s also because there’s a belief that AI generated CSAM encourages real child abuse.

I shan’t say whether it does - I tend to believe so but haven’t seen data to prove me right or wrong.

Also, at the end, I think it’s simply an ethical position.

  • Why a new engine, Firefox is open source?!

    Fork Firefox.

But good luck funding a team to keep up with commercial companies’ pace. It needs funding.

If Mozilla made a way to donate in a way that I KNEW it would go towards the maintenance of the browser, and not another crappy thing they’re trying to be profitable, I’d donate in a second. I spend about £30/month on OSS donations and I’d happily add £5/month to Mozilla if I trusted them not to misspend it.

  • They are losing money and their business model is not breaking even. I want getting to make a governance point (though I agree with yours), merely saying they are desperate.

  • No it’s because Firefox isn’t profitable and to try to survive in its current form they have to do something.

It might be more productive to die and live on as an open source effort. I personally doubt there’s enough open source engagement to keep Firefox current and competitive but it’s of course an alternative Mozilla in its current form is unable to consider.
