  • For the 'average' user you're suggesting to be helping none of these are remotely difficult to address..

"I'm confused about antivirus," Windows handles it

"I keep forgetting to check on updates for the program I use so much," The apps you use will ask to update when you use them

"I'm unsure if I'm on the correct site to download an exe file from," The website for the application

"I keep getting ads in my taskbar," Disabled in literally 3 seconds at install and never think about it again (yeah it's dumb it happens at all, fine)

"I was going to find a different browser to use but my computer dissuaded me from doing so," getfirefox.com. install & run. Click set default browser when it pops up.

If you can't answer a simple one sentence answer to an easy question I don't think it's Windows fault. I say this as somehow who has helped tech illiterate people of all sorts on Windows, Linux, and Unix systems over the past 25+ years.

  • From that pence quote.. I highly doubt trump knows the words 'legislature' or 'determination'

  • Plus addressing (your-email+somearbitrarytag@domain.com) is also a nice tool at your disposal. Helps track where the spam is coming from. I've found few/none trim it when storing addresses so it consistently works.

  • To what end? Probably every eula/tos you click through has concerning shit that is against your best interest. Either you use the product or you don't.

  • 'mate', 'wankery'...

I take it your country is totally free of any atrocities and has since Its inception been fair and impartial in all of its international dealings.

  • Pedantic Ass is my middle name, so no worries!

I can't hold it against a developer for wanting to be compensated for their time. It's totally fair to want to get paid for your work. But there are already a number of growing apps that support the FOSS ideals of Lemmy so everything I've been seeing with Sync has just left a bad taste in my mouth.

  • Asking for donations is, again, different than extortion. There's a stark difference between a splash screen asking for funding to continue providing a free service and forcing ads and tracking in exchange for cash to operate on said FOSS platform.

  • Just because something receives funding doesn't mean it isn't free. I understand development has costs. Hosting has costs. But nobody is extorting payment for hosting or developing lemmy. As an end user, the service is free to use. That's obviously what I'm referring to.

  • ... They said, on the ad free, FOSS free, free as in beer free, constantly updated and sustained platform.

Posted from my free, ad free, constantly updated, 'fairy tale' Android App.

  • Does Liftoff offer keyword filtering or blocking instances at the account level?

  • Glad she's okay, she looks very sweet! And yeah aside from mine being occasionally extra picky, the Merrick seems to be great grain free food

  • My cats pretended to like that Purrfect Bistro duck until I decided to buy two cases of it, now they won't touch it. They love the beef but it's been impossible to find for a few months now.

  • Where was that implied at all?

Half my feed is filled with posts about Sync so I decided to finally respond to one. It was a popular app on Reddit for a reason, I'm sure, and I'm simply expressing my opinion on inviting ads and intrusive tracking to this platform.

I'm happily using Connect after using Jerboa for a month. Both work fine and Connect isn't perfect but it's been developed quicky with a lot of changes for user feedback, collects 0 data, has no ads, and offers the most important feature for me - the ability to filter keywords and block instances.

  • I mean, it's not like Threads but for me anything more than 0 data collection is too much. I saw it linked in another post so I can't say exactly but you should be able to see specifically by finding it on your app store.

  • I, too, love intrusive tracking permissions and ads.

    Oh, wait... no I don't.

  • there is no such thing as a distinction between "democracy" and "authoritarian".

    Lol. Ok.

  • I never said anything about you praising authoritarian leaders, that's the picture you're painting in your head. Whether or not you're praising them, I think 'supreme leader' encompasses the definition:

"leaders behavior that asserts absolute authority and control over subordinates and [that] demands unquestionable obedience from subordinates."

Unquestionable obedience. Like a master and a slave. Like a dog.

'Tankie' is often associated with Marxist-Leninists.

Taken from the 'communism' wiki page,

Communists often seek a voluntary state of self-governance but disagree on the means to this end. This reflects a distinction between a more libertarian approach of communization, revolutionary spontaneity, and workers' self-management, and a more authoritarian vanguardist or communist party-driven approach through the development of a socialist state followed by the withering away of the state.

Would you look at that. Authoritarian approach. The root of disagreement among communist.

  • The age old tradition of cultural appropriation.

  • "Pope" is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported.

  • Would you prefer Authoritarian Left instead? Because authoritarian is authoritarian is authoritarian. Left or right fuck off with your supreme leader bullshit.
