"Tagging Trump" because it was an answer (quote? Not sure what is the xitter term) to the tweer where Trump announced the pick for antitrust.
I do disagree with the person you are answering to, he did praise republicans. He did in a very narrow context and for specific (although opinable) reasons and he praised Trump for having made that specific pick.
No, I can read sentences in context, and I learned that the world has 3 dismensions quite early. Maybe it was because I lived in a country with a public school system that works (more or less).
Anyway, a cult is a cult, and I feel I have nothing to gain from this interaction. Cya.
Expressing support for a specific person picked, in a specific and narrow context = being OK with etc...?
Also, it's not his country either (like is not mine). As an external observer does it mean that if Trump will do anything (anything at all) that I agree with, even for the broken clock theory, I need to lobotomize myself and not say it, otherwise I am OK with a rapist insurrectionist grifter felon etc. etc.?
I don't need to try, I do, all the time. I use simplelogin aliases, as I said, which means I have passmail.net, simplelogin.com etc. emails.
Trashmail is a disposable email address, which is already different. So far, I have never encountered a problem with a "privacy domain".
Again, I am not claiming that the problems don't exist, but that it's maybe few niche sites. And why wouldn't it be the case? Most orders require invoice data, which is personal data, or a shipping destination which is again personal. Why a seller would inherently care of the email address I use? Also anybody can create gmail accounts, so why proton would be different? It doesn't make any sense to me, and in fact I don't see this problem.
Can you maybe list a few sites for which proton addresses wouldn't work?
Yes, big fan of Lina Khan, I worked with her in 2020 on the House report on antitrust (the House was controlled by Democrats back then). I've discussed this elsewhere, but certain events in 2022 made it very clear that further progress on antitrust was unlikely under Democratic leadership. You can read more about the backstory here: https://time.com/6243256/schumer-kills-antitrust-big-tech-bills/
Edit: I see someone else already posted it. I will leave it here even if it's a duplicate for future self-shame.
He didn't say that though, he thinks Republicans are the party more likely to fight for "small tech" against big tech in the antitrust space. You can still consider this bad judgment but it's purely an opinion that he motivated from his point of view with a few data points.
Digital rights are an indirect benefit that may derive for breaking big tech monopolies, but nothing was mentioned.
Edit: for those downvoting, this is factual. Just go check the tweet and the reddit comments he did.
If you want to be pissed at someone at least choose what that person did or said.
Yep, a complete drama over nothing that got many people start a witch hunt. We already reached the point in which the guy is now a Nazi for having chosen a username with 88 in it, despite the fact that he is Taiwanese AND born in that year.
Basically this is the well-meaning, internet vigilantes version of "bill gates injects 5g microchips with vaccines".
I use simplelogin aliases for everything. I have never had any problem with any purchase.
So, I understand this may happen, but claiming that "many websites" do is just plain misinformation.
I don't know how sup will be, but signal is a mature product, run by a nonprofit, with functional apps etc. I moved my group of friends and my family years ago and it has all the essential features. People want stuff that just works, especially for talking and communicating daily. I doubt sup will be the same level of maturity while also offering the same security and privacy features as signal does, at least for years to come.
To add a bit of context, it's not universally celebrated. I don't mean the killing of Mussolini or the fact that there are still fascists or nostalgics, but specifically the disfiguring of the bodies. Even among antifascists, even among partisans, there were those who considered it barbaric. Most famously, Sandro Pertini told the story (he was there, as a partisan) and famously said "I fight the enemy alive".
I think in this perspective, it's understandable it has not made an official monument.
It's still a good thing to remind to fascists of where they belong, but it's not one of the proudest pages of Italian resistance.
Just FYI this is not just an American thing. In Italy for example the President of the republic can cancel or amend sentences too, and it does happen relatively often, although not in the same partisan way as in the US (but that's also because the president in Italy is a neutral and representative position).
By providing resources to house them?
I am from Rome, I know how big (small) the Vatican is. I also know that the church owns an impressive amount of estate in Rome and Italy in general. Whatever the solution could be, from boosting Caritas (the association who already has canteens for poor people), to funding low-cost housing, to whatever else can be imagined, it's a stark contrast walking such a luxurious place, the core of the Catholic church and seeing people sleeping in the open in winter on the ground.
Obviously I am not naive, I know that poverty for the church is something to mitigate perhaps, but never to solve.

Personally, I don't see what the big deal is.
