  • Well, the Tablo that I have is intended to be used over a local IP network. It doesn't connect directly to a TV. Which implies you need a smart TV that can install the Tablo app (which is no issue for any modern TV) and is connected to the network. Or some screen to watch it on, like an ipad. Which, is a feature of the device for sure, as you can use it on multiple TVs in the house, or any screen for that matter, including a computer. Assuming they are connected with a network.

Quality internet is not required. You do get the TV guide content over the internet but I'd imagine with a slow or unreliable connection it would still download fine when it's able.

But you need a local network that will handle the "network centric" design of the Tablo. The Jetpack is that little cell service device that creates a WiFi signal to give internet access to a limited number of close devices. It would likely not be suitable, especially for long term use. So unless they had the necessary equipment to create a local network (most people call this their router, which I'm assuming they do not have with the jetpack) the network "centric" Tablo may not be the right choice.

I'd imagine there are OTA DVRs that plug directly into a TV... And you technically do not need the "built in" TV guide functionality, you would just need to create manual recordings. For sure an OTA DVR would be ideal for off-grid use... It doesn't need the internet (even the tablo) but at least as far as the tablo is concerned you would need local network infrastructure most people living off-grid would not have.

And then the antenna is the other component I didn't speak about. This can be the simple "in the window" antenna that is a flat piece of plastic and cost $20. Or can be a more complex attic antenna that connects with a coax cable to the DVR. That all just depends on the location.

All the DVR product websites provide quality documentation with a way to look up your address to determine what channels you'll get and to figure all this out.

  • You misspelled utopia. Not sure what reality you'd expect humans to create a stateless and classless "communism" outside the hippie commune out in the woods.

The comment you replied to even said "at a national scale." That's the rub, isn't it?

  • I used to be vehemently against EA games but there are some good ones. Project Zombiod for one. But a big part of the fun of that game is modding it. And the mod scene is expansive and quality, but I understand lots of people not wanting to mod games.

What pisses me off more is "Released" games like RimWorld that are broken as vanilla and require modding to work properly. That shit needs to stay in EA.

  • I use a Tablo OTA DVR and there is a Tablo Ripper app that I use to pull the MP4's out of it (sadly not a feature they offer). Then I use MCE Buddy to remove commercials. So your suggestion is legit.

Extra bonus it's technically not piracy 😄

  • Unbelievable but slightly possible enough to be true. 😄 I was at the last LA EDC (and plenty of orange shows before that). I didn't go every year but I'm not even sure they had many at the coliseum... So had to be 07/08?

  • I so don't want to be thinking about this but just to give the benefit of the doubt let's say they are physically incapable of tucking. Even on a "long" toilet. Which, I've for sure seen people in public where I've considered how people accomplish certain things like wiping their own ass.

So if they can't tuck they must either piss first and then sit and shit.... Which I guess is possible. But I'm thinking more like a bucket is used and placed in front, so you piss in the bucket on the floor in front of the toilet while shitting. Then you dump the bucket in the toilet and flush. And hopefully wipe somehow, or maybe use a bidet. I am sure this situation is some people's reality.

  • Not telling me anything I already know. But your context of what you meant clarifies things. But I'd argue the empire will fall due to DT being elected sooner than it will fall because of our fucked up economy. So "so what" if politicians are politicianing. We just need to get past 2024 and then we can try to fix the real problems.

  • I realize my input is mostly meaningless and I didn't downvote you, but what I think is funny about this whole thread is that the game mechanics and turn based combat are fantastic. I don't really think those points are subjective, those are literally two of the main things that make the game great. The dynamic aspect of the elements and the surfaces and how those all interplay are just really well done. I'm not in any way saying you should like them, but if you've played Pillars and other similar games and are not just a "random dumb shooter" player I'd personally imagine you could be objective about the good parts of the game and still just acknowledge, "but I just couldn't get into it." Or "I can see where they were going with the mechanics but I think it's too much." (Which would be valid criticism) To me that's why you're being downvoted.

  • Lol the tool who downvoted you after reading your first sentence but couldn't be bothered to read the rest...

But yes the answer is absolutely greed. And the naivety that "oh look this place over here rented for $500 more I guess I can charge $500 more too..." + "Why would I lose out on $6000/yr?!" + "If I still rent out for what I was renting it out for some losers will just move in." + "This is how an investment works! I get more money because time and not because I actually improved the home to justify $500 more." ... The list goes on ...
