How would you propose connecting to a mesh network without the use of an ISP? Are you thinking wireless (wifi)? For something like that to work you would need an AP/repeater every 150 feet or so. How would you cross oceans without bouncing wireless signals off the
ionosphere (creating latency issues) or using a cable (requiring some entity to maintain it - $$$)?
If you break it down into the requirements to do such a thing you can start to understand why your question is a bit ridiculous.
This doesn't even feel like an article - more like one long advertisement. The second paragraph of the article launches into a review of the "Erect Horse Penis - Concept LoRA"
Dude thought that meat and flavorful food caused sexual desire and lead to masturbation. He was an anti-masturbation crusader and invented his breakfast cereal to help decrease sexual desire.
Private in this context means that it is isolated. If you want it to be private in the sense that it's only for you to use the you just close registrations.
Well when compared to socialist/communist ideology it's definitely more right but the Democratic party is the only realistic hope leftist people have in the United States.
A third party candidate. The US has 2 real political parties. Democrats see voting for a Green party candidate as spoiling the chances for the Democratic candidate because only left leaning people would vote Green and this effectively splits the vote.
If you post to a community that isn't local, the content of the post is stored on your local server and the remote server just makes a copy. The posters home server is where the illegal content is hosted.
Would you let some 1000 people stash their stolen goods in your house? Do you think the police would give you a break? Think about it. If lemmy.world is forced to shut down because it hosted illegal materials where will the plus side be?
I guess if you live in a place where electricity is super expensive this will matter. A good majority of self-hosted people don't seem to care much as they have server racks full of old hardware.
I can't find where it says this was the second time in the article. Can you quote it?
