  • I like Only Yesterday. There's just something appealing about getting away from a stifling job in the city and just going out to live in the country for fun, even if just for a week.

  • Palestinian philosopher and writer Edward Said was also famously in favor of a one-state solution which granted equal rights to Palestinians.

I think that is honestly the only way forward, but feel like it will take extended intervention by a foreign government or international organization to enforce. And I am guessing that really means extended at this point.

  • Ahh okay, I think I get what you're getting at. It's like how if you dry off after a shower, your towel is damp and not wet because you're just looking at saturation.

I'd be surprised if other languages call the air "wet" because that's an English word. In Chinese, we'd call humidity 湿度 which means "degree of wet".

  • If air with 0% humidity can be called dry, then air with humidity can be called wet.

Language isn't perfect and it's often contextual. If someone wants to describe a property of water based on a newer usage in physics, maybe choose a newer word.

  • That...is actually a good point. I have a feeling that if it were cropped and I was using the standard view of my Lemmy app that shows images as cards, it would be really stretched out and cropped at the sides to try to make it fit the standard margins.

  • Depending on who you ask, a lot. Or very little.

For me today, though, it was the large downtime earlier. It's big by Fediverse standards, microscopic by Reddit standards, and as-is it struggles to keep stable uptime some days.

  • The only thing that would have me worried, even given these examples, is the fact that the current supreme court seems to enjoy wiping their ass with precedent.

They haven't been afraid to dismiss older rulings, or to say that this time is somehow different than before because it'd be more convenient.

  • Sous vide was a game changer for me. I don't use mine often but break it out when I want to convince people I am not terrible at cooking.

Just wish that it wasn't necessary to use so much plastic for it. If there was any sort of plant-based film that food could be sealed in instead, it'd be perfect.

  • Honestly I think it's hideous. Wish they would take this one back to the drawing board. I prefer the sleek and minimalist push they used to have, but now it feels like they're going back in a maximalist direction.

My phone's OS doesn't need to be a theatrical experience with every press or swipe, it just needs to get me from point A to point B as quickly and simply as possible.
