  • "he was met mainly with inaction because, he says, of fears about the amount of work involved or the cost"

No kidding, engagement drives their whole business model. And nothing engages and addicts people more than violent, hateful shit.

And its not just young men (though they are more heavily targeted) the algorithm can hijack almost any viewing pattern and steer it in a violent, xenophobic direction in a remarkably short time.

They arent going to change the algorithm unless serious action is taken by government regulation, or something (which is not a promising thought)

  • the same Maga that tried banned Muslims from entering the country, or has been rabidly Islamaphobic since the Bush administration ?
Muslim voters are way more likely to protest vote or sit out than actually voting for Trump.

  • It is on the DNC to have better policy, but with th democrats thete is actually a chance of better policy. At least there is the Sanders wing of the party pushing for a ceasefire. What I dont think people realize voting for a third party will not only keep the genocide going but also install the violent authoritarian Republican party for life, basically. Good luck getting a Trump government to reverse course on anything, let alone cracking down on whats happening in Gaza.

Republicans are typically even more hawkish and pro Israel, not to mention their mass deportation policies and history of islamaphobic policy (worse under Trump. The guy who wants to ban muslims from enterting the country and wants to deport millions, anyone he deems undesireable.)

  • they have been doing this, generally

  • Theyve been pissbabying about it for several elections now. (And yet Republicans historically are the biggest culprits for actual voter fraud, negligible as it is)

  • their resources are spread thin, Im sure a significant effort is being focused on helping Trump

  • this is pretty fucked up. How many more election interference laws is Musk going to break before the government charges him?

  • Yes, no kidding people are more afraid of Trump. He wants to dismantle democracy and install himself and Christian facists. He wants to arrest and deport "dissidents", citizens and non-citizens, millions of people.

Are you implying Americans are complicit in genocide if they vote against their country becoming a violent facist state? (especially when when Trump, would also 100% make things worse in Gaza. He is a known islamaphobe, and has called for Netanyahu to "finish the job" etc). This is why people are getting pissy.

There is absolutely a better chance of a new approach with Harris than with Trump, and to say otherwise is not based in reality.

  • I think people do care a lot, but this is the worst election to protest or shut down because of it. I know people always say that but in this case its true.

Either way the people of Gaza have a much better chance if Trump is decisively defeated. Again, Trump is closely aligned with Netanyahu, and has said the IDF needs to "finish the job". I would think people would be motivated to vote against him.

  • right, but she is still the better choice in this matter by a wide, wide margin.

Not voting or voting for Trump because of this one issue , important though it is, and allowing a christo-facist authoritarian to assume power as a result seems like a horrible irresponsible take. (Not to mention Trump would only embolden Netanyahu and his cabinet.)

How would abstaining or voting for Trump help the situation in Gaza at all?

  • Hopefully the bid is blocked.

In Canada we havent had any grocers mergers refused in the last twenty, thirty years of neocon rule. (both major parties seem fine with companies growing unchecked)

Now nationwide we only three big grocers, monopolies running unchecked is an affordability nightmare.

    from the article:

Eby says the province has counted 18 major disruptions at schools across the province since the start of the school year, and several more before September, including demonstrators banging on classroom windows at a school in Burns Lake.

"[It's] concerning, frightening, alarming and it makes school feel like a not safe place," he said.

Eby said all of the incidents the province has counted involved demonstrators against SOGI 123 — the province's optional educational resource for teaching about sexual orientation and gender identity — but said the law is content-neutral and will be applied equally regardless of the cause.

  • Read the article, this is about preventing adults from protesting on school grounds, not outright banning protesting.

You think transphobic protests should be allowed to stand on school grounds making kids and teachers uncomfortable?

  • this doesnt prevent students or college protests, its to prevent outsiders protesting on school grounds ("think of the children" conservatives, Qnuts, religious or prolife groups etc etc)

  • not exactly "magical girl" genre, Little Witch Academia is pretty good. More akin to Worst Witch? Its aimed at younger readers of course but its still fun.

  • This is a successful and enjoyable (and understabdably ludicrous, it is deadpool for craps sake) movie. This guy seems a bit confused about the current problem facing movies, and entertainment production generally.

Its fair to be worried about what trends are driving what movies get made or not. But that is less to do with creative storytelling choices made in these movies. It is more studios being run by business vultures wanting short term massive returns only, even if it means no longer making anything else but trend chasing mega films.

However thats a different conversation entirely.

  • That was the impression I got, also. Like it was more of a personal safety thing. This isn't just indignant conservatives who would get mad or boycott them ala the Bush era, this is the era of threatening real violence.

I mean, he could have done it a bit differently (that showed more support of KG) Im still not happy with him but I think this was his reason.
