  • Leftism isn’t about being anti-capitalist, though the two can and do overlap quite a bit. Left wing politics is more about what they support as opposed to being against something: pro-human rights. Pro-equality and equity. Pro-education. Pro-healthcare. Pro-environment. Walz is pro all of those things, and his track record exemplifies it.

It may seem like splitting hairs, but the distinction is important. It’s the right wing that only exists in opposition. Their only platform is what they are against.

Compared to many of his Democratic colleagues, he leans much farther left than most. That’s why it’s odd to say he’s not of the left. He is a capitalist who owns not a single stock, bond, real estate, and he doesn’t take money for speaking or have book deals. He’s a lefty capitalist, which is pretty much a diamond in the rough.

  • We are not using global standards, this is a US paper about US politics.

There may be only one or two successful politicians in the entire US who meet the “global standards,” which would make calling him out for “not being of the left” really fucking stupid.

  • That’s absurd. He is left of center in the USA by a wide margin. Saying he’s not of the left or not a leftist is quite the goalpost, especially considering his achievements such as getting statewide free lunch programs at schools.

Socialist does not mean the same thing as leftist, and isn’t the criteria to be considered “of the left.”

  • Sigh. Normal people do vote. Republicans haven’t won a national popular in 20 years, and the fluke that won in 2004 only did so because of 9/11. He also won his first term by Supreme Court decision.

Showing up is not our problem. There is zero chance Kamala and Tim don’t absolutely trounce their opposition. The fascists know this, so they will try to subvert democracy instead of win within the system.

  • Just wondering how the heck Walz can be considered “not of the left.” Looking at his accomplishments with universal background checks, free school lunch etc it seems he’s accomplished more left leaning goals than 99% of his colleagues

  • To be fair though, democrats don’t have a problem getting out to the polls, especially for national elections. No Republican has won the popular vote for 20 years; the only Republican wins in this time were based on technicalities.

I think what we’ll see in November is the same high voting numbers, but a much different demographics pivoting the central block from old centrists to younger progressives.

  • Good luck finding a “conservative” instance that’s not filled with violent rhetoric, hate and bad actors. If that’s what you’re looking for, just use X/Gab/Truth like all the other fascists.

  • I noticed the pivot in dialogue. I’ve seen him called weird a few times, which is the lesser quality one would think to call out compared to racist, fascist, rapist etc.

But I think that’s the point. All his heinous words (lies), personal attacks, and coups attempts have been normalized and the people have been desensitized. I see this pivot as a reminder of: THIS IS NOT NORMAL. This is not “all politicians are the same.” Instead of pointing to newest horrible thing, it reminds us we don’t need to be okay coexisting with fascism.

I think it unboils the frog a bit.

  • Ah, that’s a liberal problem so conservatives must care so much about their candidate’s past huh? So what you’re suggesting is they vote for Trump because he is a racist, rapist and fraud?

I bet you still shit in diapers since people are incapable of changing lmao

  • Weird, because Biden publicly and through action changed his views on those very same prison sentences.

But sure, let’s shine a flashlight and the least dangerous candidate and ignore the party actively trying to delete queerness

  • I think it’s a bit more cut and dry. This late in the game, nobody that’s going to vote doesn’t already know about Trump and all of his controversies. Whether or not they get the facts from the news they consume, they’ve already been confronted with the ugly truth in some way at some point.

If they are still “not aware” that he’s a rapist, a violence proliferator, a traitor, or a fucking idiot, it just proves they are WILLFULLY ignorant. Which is no excuse.

They don’t get a free pass just because they actively ignore facts. It’s safe to assume they support Trump over literally anyone else specifically because he has these evil qualities.
