  • Yeah those claims are a slanderous distraction. The Patriot Act gave the government legal jurisdiction to spy on citizens because the terms were so vague, they just didn't reveal that was part of the intent at the time. Also the draft of the bill that was presented to Congress to vote on had omitted several, incredibly powerful words that mysteriously appeared in later versions of the bill once it was passed. What a weird coincidence. /s

But part of Snowden's whistleblowing was unveiling that the NSA was spying on citizens before the Patriot Act was passed. The Bush administration had already made an executive order for Congress to sign off on it. Which by the way, Nancy Pelosi was a part of. Even more reason to dislike her.

Edit to clarify: I learned all of this from a documentary I watched a ways back, but I don't remember the name of it. I may be slightly misremembering some of the facts, take that as you may.

  • Gamers will never be mature or have realistic expectations. They cannot fathom that people are enjoying a thing they don't like, and they're very vocal about it, it's petty, really.

You want people to have more mature discussions but then disavow any nuance in the same breath. Do you not see how this is a contradiction?

  • To attribute this most recent failure to an overabundance of hardware variety is a joke. This issue persists on all Nvidia and Intel cards. Why? Because it's an oversight pertaining to one thing they all share in common: their shared interaction with DirectX.

Let me repeat myself for the people in the back. The number of items they had to account for with this failure is one. One API.

  • Yeah, exactly. I'm getting tired of this too. Even with all of the evidence in the world that this issue is halving game performance people are still dismissing it. $1000 dollars worth of performance I paid for down the drain and yet "a smooth 60 FPS" is enough justification for people.

It's like if somebody sold you a full-priced V8 that had 4 of the cylinders not firing and your peers telling you to deal with it because "at least it runs".

  • Other people in these comments have been reporting Starfield crashes, some of which "brick a character" apparently if it happens on an exit save (which you can't opt out of lol). Any sentiment of "it could be worse" just weakens our position as consumers IMO.

  • By the standard of being playable, I get that. But I'm not here to mince words. When you zoom out and look at the big picture, this one incorrectly used driver call turns a 3080ti into a 2060. A $1000 difference in performance. Defending Bethesda is just going to make future issues worse and worse.

  • Your comment, which I quoted in my reply, is itself a speculative and anecdotal piece of data

Said comment was a question of a claim. There's no speculation or anecdote involved with wanting more evidence. If you want me to make an anecdotal assertion so badly, I'll oblige.

I've worked analytic jobs that involved harvesting data off of virtually every tablet you can think of after running tests, worked other jobs that had SOPs, AIs, and data entry on tablets, been around tech my whole life (big nerd), and had to suffer the destructive storm that is children. You would think based on your claims I would've come across a single USB port or USB cable failure. Zilch.

Also I think I made myself quite clear that your tone is vitriolic. It's extremely difficult to engage with somebody that has made up their mind already.

  • Speculative claims and vitriolic anecdotes are not convincing. There are other factors here that could explain these discrepancies- if they exist at all, because again this comment is so inflammatory that it reeks of personal bias, bad faith, or fabrication- such as: how kids treat gaming peripherals as opposed to phones, placement of the charging port on the device, placement of the items in your house, quality of materials in the device (remember you're comparing phones to old, $60-$100 items), your perspective focusing more on negative experiences than positive, etc.

  • I'll preface this by admitting I misspoke. Lightning did develop into a better technology once the power delivery got better and I forgot they desperately needed the slightly higher PD for the 4th gen iPad. I also completely forgot about the logical data layers afforded by the extra pins because it's such a strange niche to need direct output for your phone rather than just moving the files to a computer. However, this still doesn't explain why they wouldn't just switch to USB-C when it was released and proven to serve all these functions, and I take issue with every other point you made.

    More durable ports

I would love conclusive, hard data on this but this has been spread everywhere and it's completely anecdotal. I've seen the "40K to 10K" comparisons but the 40K mating cycles minimum is attributed to the lightning port while the 10K mating cycles minimum is attributed to the micro usb/usb-c cable.

    substantial advantages

    Reversible connector

    Really?

Many existing micro USB cables are terrible, i.e., they only support charging (no data) or they only support charging at 2.5W

Apple's very own branded lightning cables are terrible quality. I don't see why you wouldn't hold a first-party manufacturer accountable for their low quality standard and then turn around and point to a low standard for third-party manufacturers.

  • Not the fucking port in the phone though. Way to ignore that.

I'm skeptical that this happens anywhere remotely near frequently enough to condemn the entire technology. Never seen it, and never heard about it until just now.

“Android” isn’t a single maker. Sure galaxies and pixels are USB3.0 or 3.1. The vast majority of cheapo Android phones use 2.0.

I would love for you to find a single noteworthy android manufacturer that is not in this list. *Edited because this link was not working correctly on desktop site
