  • Math. Because I have a degree in it. Not Math Education. Math.

  • Of course you can fork it, but you can't call it Mastodon. That's trademarked. Just like how you can fork Firefox but have to call it Waterfox or Iceweasel or Librewolf.

The confusion here is between Mastodon the company and Mastodon the software and instances of the running software. Eugen Rochko owns the first two. He also owns the instances mastodon.social and mastodon.online. Everything else is outside of his control.

  • It was never controlled by a single person to begin with.

The computer program called Mastodon was (and still is for now) completely controlled by Eugen Rochko. In the future it will be controlled by a non-profit.

See this and this for more info.

  • You can see exactly what he made in 2023. The report is available here.

    €60k

  • Initially read the name as Callum McFuckery and that fit pretty well.

  • This comes up a lot. The fact is that almost everyone who mined a few dozen BTC back then would have sold it when it reached $100. No one ever thought back in 2009 that it'd be worth what it is now.

  • You know how you think George W. Bush is the worst president we've ever had or ever will have? Well in 2017 you're going to wish he was in office. Also, go to school in a foreign country so you can be a permanent resident there.

  • I spend most of Sunday dreading Monday so Sunday it is.

  • This meme was obviously made when "Luigi" was just the secondary character in a video game franchise.

  • First, ass world. Then die mart.

  • the retailer is generally considered oblivious to the situation until proven otherwise they have zero incentive to vet the product.

In fact they are willfully ignorant because selling counterfeit merchandise helps line go up.

  • Most people would probably send you those for free. No need to buy.

  • My only regret is that I have...boneitis!

  • So I replied to this comment as well as the original post via Mastodon. Apparently this doesn't work anymore (or I was wrong and never did or it's very slow).

  • I (as a US driver) was taught to follow this procedure when changing lanes:

    • rear-view mirror
    • side mirror
    • peek over shoulder

Only then can you make the lane change.

  • Possibly! I have replied to this post from my Mastodon account (hopefully that post will show up soon). People on Mastodon can see these posts and interact with them, but it's kinda clunky. The posts and comments are implemented as boosts. So you post here and I see this on Mastodon:

Every reply will also show as a boost from nostupidquestions@lemmy.world.

I don't think it works the other way around. I don't believe you can follow specific AP accounts from here (like you can't follow my Mastodon account from your Lemmy account). I think they have to be groups/communities. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

  • I was in a bad mental health space. So I took off the 31st from work. Did nothing until my wife came home. We watched a bit of DS9 and Squid Game. Then we watched the ball drop. Then I took a trazodone and hydroxyzine and went to bed. I slept for about 11 hours and am feeling a bit better today.

  • We were until recently a one car household (my wife and I both work from home). So I drove a 2019 Toyota Camry. Why? Because that's what my wife wanted.

My sister got a new car so I bought her old one off of her so I could have a backup on the rare times we needed two. It's a 2012 Ford Fiesta. Why? Because it was cheap ($2k) and it gets good gas mileage. I also like the car because I'm a minimalist at heart. It's very simple and I like that.

  • I'm 40, but I feel "I have to go back to work in 32 hours, what's the point?" in my bones.
