  • And the creators of lemmy (same dudes lemmy.ml) have done things like this. Specifically the insertion of automatic word filters IIRC:

    https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/622

Here you can see all the glory of these devs.

Don’t forget, there’s lots of other federated media options besides lemmy.

Frankly my time around lemmy.ml has been pretty off putting to the service as a whole. I don’t see how endless user growth is sustainable for any volunteer moderation team either.

Don’t forget, you all can go look through the lemmy.ml mod log at any time and view the bullshit that goes on over there.

    Here’s a link: https://lemmy.ml/modlog

  • Imagine making a claim like this and being so lazy that you couldn’t even throw it into virus total to confirm your hypothesis

Stop making wild ass assumptions and trying to peddle it as truth. It makes you look bad

  • Literally just said that windows is a dumpster fire for the majority of the time

Then explained that I also don’t think Linux should be seen as somehow better, and that it’s just a variant with different problems

But I guess that flew over your narrow mindset.

    See ya

  • Gamblers fallacy.

Python, npm, and others are seeing huge spikes in typosquatting with malware

Supply chain attacks are also continuing to rise which takes away everyone’s naive approach to trusting whatever comes along on the premise of “name brands”

There’s no such thing as greener grass. It is always just a different shade. We are long past simplistic systems, and continue to grow in complexity which means an increasing attack surface and a necessity for continuing education/research.

Never trust, always verify. Windows is a heaping dumpster fire 80% of the time but I’m not going to pretend that Linux magically fixes everything and is infallible or somehow just “better”. There’s a reason many people don’t switch to Linux and that’s in the simplicity of using windows (mac, even). Linux, to some extent, requires a technical mindset, especially when it comes down to analyzing push/pull history for every package that gets installed/updated.

Not to mention the bullshit that comes with the (go figure) most common and user-friendly Linux distro - Ubuntu.

  • Inb4 linux is better but ignoring that things like “trusted” repo upgrades could come with a side order of compromised for months, including spyware

Turns out, not everything is black and white

  • That’s cute. I know lots of democrats who love their guns just as much. The difference is we know when to use them and how to properly store them so our kids don’t get mad at their classmates and you know, make mistakes that cost themselves and their classmates the rest of their lives

    🤷🏻‍♂️

Stay mad and ignorant tho. It’s easier on the rest of us to deal with you when you’re blinded by rage and have had the only solid footing you have on this world knocked out beneath you.

  • It’s easier when you’re not doing speed balls a la constant dopamine hits - irl you’re not getting constant hits, why should you do it in your free time either.

Hedonism is tough path to subscribe to unless you’re trying for addictive, unrealistic tendencies 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • Dopamine hits are an addiction. You have to wean yourself off of them and never ever go back. Self control is tough but it is only achieved by trying until you get it.

Don’t keep trying the same things if they’re not working, that’s insanity. Try other strats until you find one that works for you! Games can just be a zen thing too. Try to enjoy more of the little things while playing them. Explore the landscape. Look at how the fauna and npcs interact.

Sometimes it’s about the little things, other times it’s just about setting goals and getting off when you feel content. Zen Buddhist style.

  • Code is more or less deterministic, communicating with other humans using something like the English language - much harder.

Lots of communication is open ended and up to interpretation especially with things like incorrect grammar usage and/or slang

Take your time, get it as close to right as you can the first go around
