  • The damage done to his life so far is the point. The implication being: it is intended to have a chilling effect on any potential whistleblowers. The absolute ideal for this hegemonic superpower, and any other for that matter, is to have complete freedom to break international law, with impunity, behind completely closed and sealed doors. To ‘protect its interests’ and any human cost without any repercussion. Being exposed doing what they were doing in this case, not that it was the first, has resulted in a ridiculously disproportionate response for this reason. A platform for whistleblowers to easily and anonymously get info to journalists for them to then properly verify, and when and if appropriate report on? Thats a bridge too far. Many commenting here, and the same occurred throughout this whole fiasco, like to get distracted quibbling over the details, but the implications are far wider for us as individuals and as a wider democratic society: if we properly believe in that concept. Governments and militaries have an uncomfortable relationship with the fourth estate. But actual journalism, if we assume this is what we are referring to, is one of the few hopes we have that citizens can be informed politically, rather than devolving into nationalistic drones.

  • Indeed. Unfortunately thats not how they see it. Also you need to be specific about which China you are referring to on this matter. The PRC is implied I guess, though imo the CCP are the organisation you should address as they're in charge of the PLA and associated forces currently, unfortunately.

  • All three authors have criticised the CCP in the past. The awards were held in Chengdu, land ot pandas , spicy food , and snowflake leadership. Two of the authors are from international Chinese diaspora . The snowflakes running the country are incredibly sensitive to what ethnic han Chinese outside China - especially in public spheres - say about them. They threw Gaiman in for good measure ( atleast theyre consistent which is kind of surprising). This is just another small measure of softpower being exerted. Any author with reliance on that market is either self censoring or prepared to not have access to it. So clearly its what Hugo did in order to leave in one piece. Mustve been some interesting conversations go on.

  • Yeh its not exactly doing that for me. Just very flakey with manual selection of resolutions. My bandwidth is not a good test for the autoselection right now unfortunately. Need to test with and without DASH. Very promising though. Ive kind of given up on public invidious instances or similar so might be time to selfhost something like this.

  • I hadn't seen this frontend before. Its nice. Yeh quality selection does seem a bit buggy for me also (librefox). I see under the user settings (click account top right), there are some settings for default quality and mpeg-dash. I havent tested myself but just spotted them. Maybe try these ?

Edit: i skipped your mention of “installed “ viewtube. We may not even be looking at the same thing lol. Im looking at viewtube.io . Perhaps the same if youre selfhosting anyway.

  • Destructive. The intention being to return to a perceived ‘status quo’ which was effectively a policy(more like ideology) of cultural annihilation. The behaviour of an authoritarian occupying force, rather than one of partnership. Stirring up the worst in our backwater colony while they prepare to fleece their credulous voters while dangling plastic carrots (oooh tax cuts).

  • Wow. Thanks for the link. Makes me wonder if the whole thing could be seen as a honeypot opportunity for lawyers of evil corps and others. Also makes me wonder what their business end game is - get acquired by Amazon or another streaming giant ? In which case, yikes again. I was suspicious enough with the mere fact it was a hybrid streaming, live tv, and self host media solution. Conflicts of interest. A Shame. Theres alot of good aspects to using it. Hello Jellyfin.

  • Is this via social / account stuff within the plex ecosphere ? Ive never used any of that (wittingly) including seperate user accounts in my household. Is it between such accounts you're referring to, or more insidious than that ? Ive been plexing for some years but always have one eye on jellyfin. If theyre doing anything dodgy with data I will jump. Need to have another look at their policies and settings - its been a while. Good to have a headsup.

  • Thats correct , the IDF are the terrorists in this case. Reminding us what the literal and internationally recognised and ratified definition of terrorism and war crimes are . Nothing justifies this barbarity. They are the invaders, they could choose to walk away from the hospitals and the schools and the families and the innocent victims they are now choosing to murder, “wounded” as you claim isn't a big deal, mentally torture, abuse and eventually further radicalise against them. Perhaps thats the intention , because the goal sure as hell isn't peace. This is anti civilization and the world is watching. No one wins from this pornographic inhuman behaviour.

  • Was about to post this. This is mind boggling. Also, this whole thing we have now where all you have to do is state conflicts of interest and it’s enough. No repercussion, no ensuring unfairness isn't occurring because of the conflict. Nope, we declared it so thats fine. Wtf! Commerce commission needs to be cleared out, senate needs to be chucked out of it, and gov agencies who’s job is meant to be oversight of industry need to be squeeky clean , independent, totally self contained (outsourcing work to a consultancy who also work for the orgs your reporting on ? Wtf) and have real sharp teeth. Same goes for other regulatory outfits. Corporations should be quaking in their boots if the commerce commission come knocking. No wonder we are all being ripped off as consumers, and citizens. But look who’s coming into power….the kings of commercial conflicts and slick PR comms to offset any critical reportage. Prepare for the distractions and catchphrases.

  • You can be sure that self interest is more often than not the motivator, e.g “ Business Desk reported Grenon is linked to the NZ News Essentials website, which is dedicated to attacking the Government. Grenon is a Canadian private equity tycoon who made headlines in Canada when he shifted $68.2m to New Zealand while involved in court action with Canada's tax agency.” Why wouldn't such characters put a bit of personal capital toward promoting agendas which could gain themselves serious bucks? or to campaigning against opposing agendas. Its the public who need to check themselves for credulity. God forbid such tycoons end up with 0.1% less wealth. They might have to put rents up and we will all suffer /s

  • “ LIMITATIONS OF THE DATA

This dataset provides a handy indicator of how recent price increases are likely to impact on consumers. However, it does not reflect what customers have actually paid for electricity in any particular period, as the QSDEP only models one type of customer in each city or town, when in reality, Consumption and pricing plans vary significantly across households. ”
