  • I can see where you are coming from. My BIL has learning difficulties and was borderline illiterate before smart phones enabled him to communicate in situations he otherwise wouldn't have been able to. Unfortunately the "like" button still causes issues such as when he liked/shared a meme of a scantily clad black lady with the subtitle "When a n*gga dick hits just right" or something along those lines on facebook - his black cousin was quite offended by that.

That said, I agree with the other commenter that ableism is highly situationally dependent. Screen readers do not handle misspellings well like they mentioned. In my opinon it would be ableist if you were debating with someone or downvoted them due to an ad hominen dislike of their spelling as opposed to their sentiment.

  • Could be people using a second language like others have mentioned. Another thing could be British vs US english. Webster changed how words were spelt in the early 20th centry to make them more phonetic for Americans, i.e. "colour" -> "color"

  • Yeah I'm going patient gamer with this one. Partially it's because I've not enjoyed the combat in other Larian games, even the critically acclaimed D:OS2. More more of an old school RtwP fan like the original 2 Baldurs Gate games.

However I'm a huge RPG fan so I think the dynamism I've heard about in this one's plot will win me over.

  • Your body starts betraying you.

More specific to becoming a middle aged man, I started finding any sport enjoyable regardless of what it was. Additionally I started listening to history podcasts. Not sure these are gendered activities but there is definitely a stereotype that men start getting more involved in sport and history.

  • Kind of similar with me. It turned out IBS-like symptoms were one aspect of an Ankylosing Spondylitus diagnosis I got (posted about the disease in more detail yesterday). I had assumed I had a "fast metabolism" or something because I needed the bathroom almost immediately after eating a meal.

  • I was referring to a sole proprieter situation. Like I'm a web dev and I could start a PLC, then I could work on a contract basis with whomever I wanted to. At that point I am assuming risk in terms of choosing the correct clients to get involved with and receiving increased financial renumeration.

  • Yes I think it is. I've always had back pain from mild scoliosis but it got much worse when I hit 30. I got diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitus at 31 which explained why I was getting more extreme bouts of pain in my legs all of a sudden. That disease comes with strange symptoms, in addition to the main ones of rheumatoid arthritus I've also had trouble with my motivation/energy levels and uveitis (eye inflammation) problems.

It kind of makes sense on some level that after your mid/late 20s your body has stopped growing and started its slow process of dying. I'm lucky I've still got all my hair I guess although that randomly fell out for a year in 2021!

  • Companies can make a lot of money + pay shareholders without ever declaring profits. Look at Amazon for a case of weird accounting.

More generally, I also disagree with this idea because the incentives to become an employer would be decreased and ultimately it's the business owners who are taking risks.

  • In one important way they are consumer friendly in terms of keeping physical media alive. I doubt PS6 will have a disc drive and M$ have already confirmed any new consoles from them won't.

Even these proposed "game key" carts can presumably be traded or sold so it isn't like a single use key for the online store.
