Take whatever job will pay the most while demanding the least amount of time spent on the job. It doesn't matter of a job pays a quarter million and lets you work on trendy tech if you're on the job 80 hours a week; that's just you getting fucked in the ass. If you're working 40 hours a week or less (ideally much less) you can do passion projects on your own time.
Don't look for friendship, community, or emotional fulfillment on the job. If you find it anyway, it's a trap. Do the job, get paid, and GTFO. Be a mercenary, not a company man.
I know why my parents had me cut. It was because my father had been cut, and that's just what was done at the time. It's not a good enough reason for me, and if I had had sons I would not have allowed them to be cut in turn. My children are not my property.
Edmond Dantes. Sure, he had it rough for a while, but at the end he had it made. Though I wouldn't get with Haydee. 40+ with a 14 year old might have been barely OK in Dumas' time, but I'm not into that that sort of age difference.
I don't hate Google. I just want to see it face the sort of antitrust enforcement not seen in the United States since the breakup of AT&T into the Baby Bells.
And it's not just Google I want to see ripped apart, but every corporation that operates across state lines (let alone internationally) and does more than one thing. Like Nestle, Disney, Bayer, Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony, ConAgra, Proctor & Gamble, Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, Pepsico, etc.
I understand that the post is about. I just don't see the point of this project. I'm content to not see any comments at all on a YouTube video. Whether they come from YouTube itself or Lemmy is irrelevant to me. You don't seem capable of understanding or accepting that, which isn't my problem.
Nobody in management wants to admit the truth: the corporation exists to further enrich its already wealthy owners. That sort of mission statement, however accurate, isn't going to inspire anybody to buy into the corporate culture, let alone put in unpaid overtime by working more than 40 hours a week on a salary.
Everything's gone up but our wages. Too many people are living paycheck to paycheck. Most of us work too damn hard for too damn long, get paid too damn little, and pay too damn much in taxes on what damn little we get paid. And in the meantime you've got a bunch of arrogant cunts starting wars and playing power games for no sensible reason.
I'd like to create a sim so immersive that it can't be distinguished from reality. Anybody who displays authoritarian tendencies would be forced to spend the rest of their lives playing that game, where they can be a bootlicker or a dictator without hurting anybody else.
I agree with you, but I don't think you can blame congenital syphilis on nursing home residents unless it's male residents banging female nurses young enough to be fertile.
Social media is shit, and will always be shit, because the people who make social platforms are petty authoritarians bent on punishing the world because they didn't get enough pussy in high school. It is not a substitute for a well-curated collection of RSS feeds.
“Perhaps what I am about to say will appear strange to you gentlemen, socialists, progressives, humanitarians as you are, but I never worry about my neighbor, I never try to protect society which does not protect me -- indeed, I might add, which generally takes no heed of me except to do me harm -- and, since I hold them low in my esteem and remain neutral towards them, I believe that society and my neighbor are in my debt.”
I had enough common sense as an 18-year-old to know that writers and musicians need day jobs, but not enough to realize that I'd have been better off learning a unionized trade and becoming an electrician or a plumber. Since I didn't have the looks or the personality to make it as a rent boy in Manhattan, I rent out my brain instead of my ass as a programmer.
There's no inspiration or passion involved. I'm in it for the money. It's thankless work best outsourced, and I laugh at articles saying that AI is going to take my job. An AI smart enough to take my job would be too smart to want it.
What are you producing, and for whom? As somebody with a job, I spend at least eight hours a day doing "productive" work, where productive means I'm making rich assholes even richer and getting a paycheck that amounts to pennies on every dollar of value my work creates.
If I want to do other work for myself after hourse, that's my business. Likewise if I just want to read, play video games, butcher Yngwie Malmsteen guitar solos on a violin with no audience but my cats, or shitpost on the internet.
My life is my own, and I'll spend it as I please. I can't stop others from judging me, but if they bring their judgment to my attention I can damned well make them suffer for it.
I'd kick in a few bucks to see that produced, just because once conservatives find out what it's about they'll be having shit hemorrhages from sea to shining sea.
