  • That seems to be the topic here... some people do feel uncomfortable about works having a connection to a terrible person, others don't. Personally I do think about the creator of artistic works when consuming them or as a fan, and I don't really want to be thinking "huh, I wonder what Hitler and Dahmer were thinking when they made that decision". On the other hand, some people love thinking about awful people like serial killers.

  • Yeah, invite-only isn’t exactly a proven method for a social network. It was good at building hype say, 18 years ago.

  • Bluesky recently opened up their site so you don’t have to be signed in. That will probably affect post visibility

  • Sure, but overlooking moral misgivings is the similarity. Just like I wouldn't tell someone 'hey, I love this sale at Hobby Lobby!' I wouldn't feel right about endorsing a star or director or artist or musician who was found to be a terrible person. The same applies to enjoying it in private - my knowledge about the creator would somewhat ruin my enjoyment of their work.

  • I bake the potatoes a long time, like an hour, then mash them up and add milk, butter and sour cream. Seems pretty good to me.

  • I don't really feel the need to use them to express myself. I try to use words instead :-)

  • That's the point though, that some people will use the 'but chicken sandwich is good' as a justification to overlook the other problems and still buy them. My ex and Hobby Lobby, for instance - she'd want to go there and shop for paints because they 'might have a sale', and I was just uh, no? Fuck Hobby Lobby.

  • When I had Celiac undiagnosed, all I could figure out was that I felt awful after meals. My theory was I needed to eat more healthy. I started eating whole and organic foods, which didn't help, then became a vegetarian, which didn't help (and some people sure were dicks about it). But yeah, anything that leads to eating more veggies and fiber can help with certain digestive issues and overall health.

  • If you mean to cook at home, I've done well by not caring about the cut and buying whatever is one sale. Not like, old and discounted, but often the stores near me have sales when they have a lot of something or who knows. I bought a 2.2 lb roast for $9 the other day for instance, which is enough for me to eat for days and is even cheaper than ground beef.

  • Ah, right! The post is, amazingly, from today. Maybe even on 4chan posted by OP.

  • It kinds of works like shadow banning because defederation means one instance doesn't get updates from the defeded one... but the defeded one can still be federated with the one that defeded them, so users on that can still see and comment on posts, but they aren't displayed to people using the defeded instance. So they're just posting into the void. But people on their instance and I guess other instances can still see them of course.

  • I originally read it as just saying 'different instances' and not stating a number of different instances. But that's not the format 4chan uses for a quote reply (I don't remember, isn't there a number sign or something?) and that number would be way too large for a comment ID. So, yeah. I didn't consider that someone could actually go there and find the post since I think of 4chan as /b where it all disappears after 2 hours.

  • I think any state could, if they don't have a legal system in place for that or just don't care about it. Look at how some R states were/did change their laws so if they decide they don't like the outcome of an election (claiming it was 'rigged' or whatever), the legislature can just pick a winner themselves.

  • Right, that's true. One, they do things tit-for-tat because they're childish. I was actually just commenting somewhere else about the behavior/tactic you describe. I think it's also supposed to make their target audience think "well you're just accusing us of that because we accused you of it" or "that's projection", because these people do think like that and act like it in their own lives.

It also makes no moral sense because if say, my neighbor robbed a store, would that make it okay for me to rob a store? Of course not.

  • He’s a useful idiot. The intelligent people on the conservative side understand that he’s a moron, it’s just with his popularity and lack of ethics, they can get him or his admin to do whatever corrupt shit they want. All that really matters to them is that whoever they run gets elected so they can steal/swindle money somehow.

  • The more extreme republicans in Congress have been trying to mangle the definition to fit any politics or laws they don’t agree with. Their thinking is something like “this action will hurt the country, therefore people who support it are committing treason!” Of course one problem is they can’t tell the difference between facts and their beliefs/predictions. The other is of course that’s not the definition of treason, which specifically means a betrayal by colluding with an outside party, or an insurrection (you know, like their leader tried). And to normal people it’s obviously so dangerous to start claiming that politics and policies you don’t agree with are “treason”.

  • I’m not sure how much of a difference it makes whether the public knows their names. It’s not like their parents aren’t going to know and can’t tell people or lawyers, and they’d be the only ones who could really do anything if it was a shady situation.

  • That’s some dedication! Okay. I’ll accept I am incompetent.

  • Oh. I can’t read.
