  • I saw this 70 year old guy waiting at the hospital today, with his 70 year old wife in a wheelchair, produce wearing by his brand new TRUMP hat (along with a chain wallet, like he was 20 and it was 1996). My thought was: why the fuck does this loser have to fuck up society before he dies of old age?

  • New York style is great, but it’s often floppy… it it? Idk. I lived in Connecticut and was amazed at the gas/wood slate ovens and how they’d make a medium-thin pizza that was super crispy from edge to center. Chicago style is a whole other thing, though! Plus don’t leave out Detroit!
In MN they make the weirdest “cracker crust” pizza which they cut into squares, even when the pizza is round. It’s… okay.

  • I feel like I’d have to put at least some Parmesan on top.

    Also, squib!

  • The experience was torturous overall, but considering it’s basically time travel and I’d know everything about the future up to 2024, I think I’d do a lot better at everything a second time around. I’d be amazingly good at BASIC and Pascal when I was 7, and would definitely buy that Amiga C compiler this time. I’d be pretty bored with all the 8 and 16 but Sega games since I already played them but I’d also get an SNES, since I missed all that last time. School would be easy af, and i’d feel like a pervert dating middle and high school girls so might as well just test out and get a PhD when I was 12 or something.

Oh, the real question. What would I rather I did differently? I should have spent less time reading my own books and playing video games at home, and focused on the studies school wanted me to do so I could test out and just start taking university courses rather than stay in the slog of middle and high school. Socially it was awful and not sure what I could have done at the time. I ended up dropping out and getting a GED after 9th grade, and did great on the ACT, could have gotten scholarships, but decided to do self employment rather than go to college, which wasn’t a great plan overall due to the specifics of what I chose and what happened.

  • I recall beehaw having some good communities when I was first on Lemmy this summer, but I haven’t seen much from there on Kbin or the lemmies I use - presumably because beehaw defederated for whatever reason. If you’re not going to be connected to the largest instances anyway, what’s the difference?

Sure, having a standalone forum is a legitimate thing to do, like it always has been since the start of the internet. Seems like it would be harder to grow the site without the network effect of the rest of Lemmy though.

  • The most responsible thing to do at that point would be to stash the gun somewhere in the house, not leave, and wait for police to arrive. But I can see why he would be freaking out. And of course, who knows what would happen when the police arrive.

  • Yeah, i figured that out and edited my comment. But no, throwing away a weapon you just shot someone with is not considered merely littering. Why would he think he could cover that up by tossing his gun? Tell the cops the kid shot himself I guess but that wouldn't pass ballistic evidence.

  • I guess the younger brother shot her, then the 15 year old attempted to kill his younger brother.

The 15-year-old was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder and tampering with evidence.

Seems like it could be considered self-defense though. Obviously one fucked up thing is that both of these kids were carrying pistols at their Christmas parties.

  • Ignoring it would be the most reasonable and professional thing to do. So, if it was anyone else, Elron would start slamming them and their businesses, but for Trumpy he probably doesn't think he should say anything bad about him, since then Trump would be out to get him for the rest of his life.

  • I'd say that they'd lose more business than that, but I guess not considering how happy people are to pay ridiculous prices to Uber Eats and DoorDash for fast food that's already overpriced. My neighbors get DoorDash from fast food places 5-6 times a week.

  • Quite likely an intentional thing, like they found people saying they're leaving encourages others to leave. They might even view it like when reddit was blocking mentions of lemmy.

  • I agree. It might make financial sense for them as far as reducing payroll and management costs, but it seems just as likely to reduce their sales by as much as that saves. To me it feels like a political statement "how dare you expect us to pay employees!" where they pretend it's not possible for them to make it work. Which is fine. If a business depends on paying subsistence slave wages, it should just close.

  • In the early 80s Pizza Hut used to be sort of like a normal restaurant... they usually had standalone buildings (which now have mostly been turned into other restaurants) rather than spots in strip malls, with a seating area. You could order a pizza or sandwiches and eat with your family, and they had a salad bar back when salad bars were kind of a hot trend. This persisted into the 2000s especially in smaller areas.

  • It doesn't even make sense as sure, Uber doesn't pay drivers much and Pizza Hut won't have to employ them, but customers will have to pay more. So Pizza Hut could have just said "due to increases in wages we have to implement a delivery fee", and actually paid their drivers. They'd rather do this dramatic 'omg we have to fire them' thing though.

  • There is no “ackshully” and he didn’t call anyone a liar. He just said a statement was incorrect.

  • Gaza is also much more compact and densely populated than most of Ukraine.

  • Trump never fails to do something completely inappropriate for holidays. What a miserable person. Also hilarious considering how hard Elron has been trying to suck up to the fascist conservative wing.

The way he said "Russia/Ukraine" and then "Israel/Iran" makes it seem that he thinks Israel is in a war with Iran, which isn't totally wrong but also not correct at this point, thankfully.
