  • Ha. Been there, spending hours and hours trying to get some game working. I'm thankful it's been so much better in recent years. So much more painful a decade or so ago.

That said, I never had to work around anticheat stuff. That sounds tough.

  • Some quick searches suggest Nexon having a pretty poor reputation on account of aggressive micro transactions/loot boxes. That is pretty shitty behavior for sure.

I wonder if purchasing a game like DtD, a game without such poison, is helpful to send a message that people like games without these predatory tactics.

Who am I kidding? It wouldn't change anything.

  • Soooo I hadn't heard this before. I signed up for the second-most popular lemmy instance when I was just poking around without a serious commitment. I know hexbear has been crazy but didn't know lemmy.ml had a poor rep as well. As a very casual user that just wants to support a more diverse ecosystem which instance would you or others recommend?

  • That's good to hear, and I really would love for things to get sorted out. Gimp 3.x has many improvements for sure but there's a long way to go and actually releasing these improvements is necessary...

If gimp can become another blender that would be incredible.

  • They've been completely dropping the ball for years. I used to donate regularly but have completely given up on this project. It's a farce at this point.

Thankfully I only have simple needs so Krita suffices and I don't have to deal with the never-improving UX nightmare and never-releasing changes.

Yeah, I'm salty. It's just that GIMP was a shining star of FOSS and it's just been slowly rotting from inaction.

  • The tragedy is that the centralized, profit-driven, socially-damaging platform keeps so much value under ransom because the parent company can operate it for so long at a loss.

I get that the platform is a marvel, it's just disappointing that its purpose is tailored to keep eyes watching more ads rather than contribute to society as a whole.

  • Yeah, I'm not too fond of that statement. I respect ddevault, particularly since I have seen his serious growth into a mature, empathetic person. So ICM surprised that this made it into the post.
