  • That’s kind of been my position too. Like I guess “people were posting low quality content” but if it’s no evidence of malice/rule breaking, what’s stopping people from just curating their feed and blocking users they see too much?

Still fifty-fifty on this for the record but I am glad there is more wholesome and constructive discussion on this still coming in :)

  • That’s an excellent point. Like, if we are going to have high-volume power users (which is an inevitability) it’s honestly arguably good and transparent for them to use single accounts that individual users can block—like at least they are known power users and it’s not being obfuscated.

I’m personally still fifty-fifty on the rule but this did sway me a bit.

  • Thanks for your input! It is valuable.

Re: your last paragraph. I’m literally just a third party user who was not involved in any of the conflict in any way, suggesting one potential resolution that at this point I still think could go either way.

It’s fair to assume that I was talking about myself but rest assured I have no personal investment here and my only commitment is to what is best for the community. :)

  • Your comment is confusing because this is a petition post, not a rule change. I have no leadership role here. If anything changes there will most likely be internal mod communication and then an announcement post if the rule change is significant enough to merit it.

  • Thanks! Of course I never had any doubts about this being left up but I do find it funny the number of people who were rudely adamant that this post was impossible, impossible I tell you!

cc @PhilipTheBucket@ponder.cat @catloaf@lemm.ee I encourage you to add your input under this impossible post. :)

  • find new ways to enjoy or prepare fresh fruits and veggies, get cardiovascular exercise, bonus points if in the sun for vitamin d, avoid stress when possible, sleep 7 hours when possible, avoid smoking, alcohol in excess, and other substances that put strain on your body. take care of yourself emotionally and find time to be with people you love. drink water!

no one will be able to do all of these perfectly always and it is normal to struggle attain most or even any. but they are more precise and beneficial targets than “gain or lose weight” and they have much more immediate and noticeable outcomes :)

  • Conversely, though, remember that unhealthy nutritional choices can mess with your immunity, cause inflammation, and really screw with your day-to-day energy and sleep. Nutrition is always a story performed on a much more complicated stage than weight=calories in - calories out! (Though that equation is a good signpost that guides the plot.) • To ammend even further: Health neither stops nor starts at weight in almost any case. Far better strategies for self care will instead look at:

    • Cardiovascular fitness (resting heart rate, blood pressure, etc)
    • Energy levels, blood sugar and sleep
    • Immunity, inflammation, stress

More broad attention to these three rough categories is going to be way more positive than worrying about the single metric of weight or BMI. Doctors may recommend a raise or lowering of weight, but for ALMOST EVERY person that’s only as a means to the end of improving one or more of the broader cardio, energy, and immunity mechanisms.

  • but now, apparently, it’s okay to say the entire country is filled with bullies and idiots like these kids at this school.

i mean… yeah cuz it’s kinda true. 22% of US students report being bullied—that’s 1 in 5, and those are 3 times as likely to show suicidal behaviors, which is the second leading cause of death in high schoolers.

compare that to criminal convictions for murder by illegal migrants in FY24: 29. not 29 hundred, not thousand. twenty-nine.

bullying is a huge problem. don’t get me wrong, i’m friends with former self-admitted bullies. it doesn’t mean a person is irredeemable. but bullying is a big deal that’s worth talking about.

  • thanks OP and others for sharing the photos! evidence that people are turning out is push to make the next one even more appealing—this is already the movement’s second organized demonstration and it’s already being seen so much more across fedi than the first time! :)

  • Any account that spreads lies about allies, empathetic leaders, and people I care about, I will call out. If Drag feels harassed by me straightforwardly repeating the truth from the modlog in relevant contexts, Drag is more than free to block me. Encouraging self-harm in an ableist way was deemed unacceptable by both 196 community mods and Blahaj admins independently. That decision wasn’t about silencing anyone—it was about maintaining a safe space for marginalized people.
