  • By required to teach you mean allowed to teach?

I agree with your take. I think that mandating any type of belief would cause instability and hate. I mean look at things like the soviet union with the prohibition of religion or even china.

  • There's no need for a new internet. Every garbage service has a somewhat viable alternative.

You have peertube instead of youtube Kagi, duckduckgo, marginalia, etc instead of Google search Lemmy instead of reddit Mastodon, polycentric instead of twitter Gitea instead of github Bandcamp instead of spotify There are probably more things but you get the idea. The problem is not the internet itself but that you have to have many people go to objectively less polished or paid services to protect their personal data. I don't know how that would happen since honestly, the privacy shit doesn't affect people's everyday lives, but using different services does affect their lives.

  • Just because this method is a subset of the brute force attack doesn't mean that they don't have request limiting. They are reusing known breached passwords from other platforms, which makes it basically a guarantee that they will get the right password if they don't use a password manager. Their computer systems are secure, it's just their business model that's a privacy nightmare.

  • The article heavily implies that she was demoted because of the research she did. Is that the case? They said she "wasn't of faculty quality" and nothing more. According to this, she couldn't geg funding for years until the university demoted her.

That article was trash. Literally just a bunch of tweets with very little context.

  • If we stopped producing fossil fuels tomorrow, you don't think they're gonna be mass famines and global economic collapse?

We depend so much already on fossil fuels. The solution is to invest more into renewables and plastic alternatives, not to rip it out without proper work to avoid disaster.

  • When did any post that had Nazi propaganda get to the front page?

And I don't know what are you talking about with the mocking socialism in Reddit. They even have the LateStageCapitalism sub, which is pretty popular.

  • Funny thing is that this comes from middle class people. There's still VVS and flawless diamonds which are significantly more expensive. But they can't afford one that looks any good. Given the choice they'd absolutely burn their money to buy those though.

  • In which scenario do you think that you're gonna live for longer and/or with a higher quality of life.

    • Mass blowing up and destruction of fossil fuel infrastructure
    • The status quo

Think about the implications of each scenario and let me know.

  • I can't say I have definitive data on that but when I look at the front page which includes everything that is federated by lemm.ee, I see tankie posts often and people are mostly in agreement. Something like this I would call tankie, and I see one of those everyday, maybe every two days.

I'm not saying that anti capitalist things are extreme on their own. But when it's mixed with the tolerance of overtly extreme memes makes you extreme. I'll ask again, what if it was the case for a right wing ideology? What if that meme said something like "But Zoe, the Jews are taking all the wealth and will not stop voluntarily." Would the existence of that hypothetical meme not make that community extremist? If it was just that meme on its own then fuck it, it's just edgy shock value stuff. But when the community is always slanting on one side, the meme has a more serious connotation.

  • The diamond industry sucks don't get me wrong. But the real culpurists are the dumbfuck diamond buyers.

My friend is a diamond salesperson and told me a story about one of their customers. They were looking at different pieces and the customer kept asking about the purity of the diamonds in the piece. Whenever my friend said it's "SI," the customer would be visibly disappointed and would ask for "VS" or "VVS" which are purer. My friend then got annoyed a bit and told the customer that purity doesn't matter once you reach "SI" since the impurities are not really visible by the naked eye. He even showed the customer 2 pieces with one looking 10 times better than the other but has SI diamonds and the non-pretty piece has VS diamonds. He asked the customer to tell him which is which and the customer wrongly said the SI one was more pure. Even after he revealed his ruse and showed that purity doesn't matter much, the customer kept asking for more pure pieces as if nothing happened.

These "people" literallly are willingly being lied to, and they like it. If a diamond buyer saw a piece, told you they love it, told you they would buy it, then you told them it's a synthetic, they would be disgusted. It's bullshit from all sides and they deserve eachother.

  • "Saving humanity from the sins of the west and their ideological indoctrination is also not political. "

    • Osama Bin Laden (probably)

Just call it what it is then say it's justified if you think it is. If you can dress this up as not terrorism then nothing is.

  • I would bet any amount of money that at least 50% of lemmy posts are shitting on capitalism. Couple that with the fact that people tolerate some amount of tankie'ism, I'd say lemmy is extreme.

Let me ask you this, if you had a website with a community that relentlessly mocks communism and/or socialism, and lets some nazi posts rise to the top, what would you call that website?

I don't know anything about Barbie so I can't say anything about that. But I know that not all of lemmy is extreme, of course there's gonna be some normal everyday content.
