  • I made it on the fly, but the point is that the clout goes away when 1) you're not my senator, 2) you're not a legislator in my country and 3) you go against everything I stand for - what kind of clout am I supposed to feel from someone like that?

  • I mean, I don't totally disagree here, but I'm not sure what kind of clout that's supposed to hold under team Trump.

Like, understanding this isn't a perfect analogy, if I were working in an American prison holding a Russian prisoner and a Putin-aligned legislator wanted to see that prisoner I would take great pleasure in telling them to fuck off if I had that power.

  • Philippines was a US territory

that hasn’t been true since 1946.

I mean... It was a US territory. Well, at least it was under control of the US in some way. I think one of/the first cruel and unusual constitutional challenges was over something that originated in the Philippines.

  • I think Lemmy can get alarmist at times, sure. But when people are getting punished without due process, that's a big deal. When the Justice department admits they made a mistake but have no interest in correcting it, that's a big deal. When judges (and the Supreme Court) tell them to figure it out (edit: and they don't), that's a big deal. When the reason they give (the people are deported to another country and in their custody) is essentially a workaround that the Justice department came up with, and they don't have any meaningful consequence to stop them from doing it again, that's a big deal.

  • Raspberry Pi 400. I thought having the built-in keyboard would be useful and as it turns out, it wasn't! My first thing running on a Pi so I didn't realize how much it depends on things running remotely. Oh well!

  • Then qualify it. But even then, while I'd definitely think twice about unnecessary border crossings, there are surely plenty of queer or people of color going through the border without getting that not-joking best-case-scenario held for days treatment.

  • Sorry, best case scenario is that you're held for days? Where are they keeping these planes full of passengers and crew that are coming into international airports everywhere on a daily basis?

The US is embarrassing. So are "not joking" comments like this.

  • How much could it cost to have a handful of requested groceries for a few chefs, knowing some of whom won't move further, compared to the entire cost of producing the show?

  • When setting it, sure. But if we're talking about next login, that would imply we're talking about passwords established in the database/server.

Then again, you do have that plaintext password available when it's entered. Rather than checking what's in the database, you could see what's in the form that just triggered a successful login. That's not as scary

  • How does the system know that an already-established password is weak if not in plain text? Or are you saying you have a set of passwords, each of which have gone through the same cipher algorithm, and see if there are any matches?

  • I have a good friend in Canada (Saskatchewan) who has visited us in the States a couple times now. Thinking of doing the drive up this summer to visit her and support the Canadian economy (even if just a little) for a change. If I do, I'll probably tape a sign next to my Colorado license plate that at the very least says "sorry!"

  • Couple photos before caulking. Too many soulless, sterile, monochromatic kitchens out there. I have some white/gray stuff, but only with some strategy involved. Gray counters hide food. White cabinets are timeless and easy to match. I was sure to add color where I could otherwise, and the backsplash was a great option!
