  • The link doesn't work dude, and I've seen images and then an identical image of a dog at the vets that was clearly the image used to generation the propaganda image. If the image isn't verified by multiple large organisations like the UN then it means jack shit on the post ai internet.

  • While I agree with you about Hamas, the fact you don't apply the same logic to the IDF is very telling. A country that believes a whole group of people are less than human and wants them eradicated absolutely intends every casualty it inflicts.

Israeli snipers murder innocent children, journalists and medical staff because of evil intentions.

Israeli bombs dropped on one of the densest populated areas which are bound to inflict civilian casualties are doing their intended evil.

The choice to turn off the electricity even though it will guarantee deaths in hospitals is not bad luck and is evil.

    Israel is evil.

In fact if we're going by civilian casualties Israel is like 36x more evil.

  • I would have to disagree on the absolutism bit.

I would consider that the Haitian slave rebellion or Warsaw ghetto uprisings were intrinsically good.

I would wish to see liberation of oppressed peoples be a universal law. I would wish for this to be applied to all and I wish for everyone to act on this.

I believe the above fits under Kantian ethics.

  • I mean that is sort of the definition of justified but it's being misused here, it just means having a good reason. Everyone is ignoring how subjective it is though. Bob may consider his life above others, so for him staying alive is a good enough reason to commit murder. Jane and a jury are very likely to disagree.

Different language needs to be used I think to avoid the issues people have with the concept of violent resistance.

Peace isn't an option because injustice still happens under peace time. Liberation is a better solution for the oppressed.

    So now we've got:

Liberation of oppressed peoples from oppression is always justified.

This focuses more on the end goal than the action that resistance implies. Liberation can still involve violent resistance and that's okay. You can be on the side of righteousness and still do what is morally wrong, this is true of all movements.

We have to agree that liberation from oppression is always morally good and we have to apply it to all cases. So if we don't look at the Palestinian struggle the same way we'd look at indigenous issues in north America or apartheid SA, we'd be hypocrites.

  • HTTPS is definitely not a major reason the web turned corporate. It has its problems for sure though.

Look at Gemini if you want an example of a decent web ecosystem that has HTTPS as a requirement for the protocol.

Gemini benefits from two things that the web has lost:

    • small size: just like the web was once small, Gemini is still too small for any copos to consider it as an option to push their content or services although I believe there has been some small examples of this being tried.
    • simple browser spec: Gemini benefits from having a number of browsers, none of which implement anything as interactive or insecure as JS(mime types other than gem text tend to be opened by other applications) and no one browser is influencing the spec for their own goals. This means all Gemini content is static once loaded by the client. No injected ads, no scraping of data and no hijacking of the tech by private companies.
  • Get fdroid and download newpipe or alternative if you want to keep an app for YouTube without ads.

Alternative web front ends also exist if you are okay with watching videos in a mobile browser. I use an invidious instance, pick one that's close to you here. Other front ends also exist.

Alternative video platforms such as LBRY also exist and I've found a few youtubers I watched on it.

Absolutely take it as an opportunity to reduce your video content consumption. I like the invidious solution because I don't get notifications and it takes a bit more effort to manually open the link in the web client so I tend not to watch videos I'm only half interested in.

    Edit: froid => fdroid

  • Not starving millions of people right on their doorstep is not highest on their list of priorities?

It's pretty easy to not cut off their power supply that they control.

It's pretty easy to stop carpet bombing civilians (including the banned use of phosphorus weapons near densely populated areas which happened yesterday)

It's pretty easy to not stop humanitarian aid.

It's pretty easy to stop blockading them.

It's pretty easy to stop killing them indiscriminately.

They just choose not to do the right thing.

  • Hate to break it to you again but peaceful methods didn't work at the start of the troubles and protestant view were already hardened. It took a lot of violence to get to a point where things changed. You can argue that political solution and peace could have happened before 98 but as for a lot of civil rights movements violence started to get things moving to a point where the oppressor has to engage in more peaceful ways.

  • Hate to break it to you, the OG IRA used violence and got most of the country in 1921. Republican groups used violence in the north in the late 60s to 70s and it improved the very real injustices facing Catholics at the time.

Violence has always been needed to change things in a meaningful way.

  • The US aren't hypocrites when they support fascist states its what they've always done unless public support hasn't let them.

Hamas isn't Palestine. I expect when the people rise up together they will win. There are way more organisations than Hama's currently in this fight btw.

Last I've seen is that the Palestinian offensive is 10 km away from splitting Israel in two. We'll see what the situation is when the dust settles.

For the moment I will continue to uncritically support the Palestinian struggle and call out those that don't because they support genocide as the status quo.

  • Even if they only hit military targets they would still be labeled as terrorists. You need a different word that hasn't been massively overused.

If the support is conditional its not really support.

Did you even do any research before you came up with this bulshit liberal stance? The Gaza Strip a neutral zone? That's like saying Israel needs to become a neutral zone.

  • Terrorism or liberation?

    How will the opposite help?

Injustice can happen under peace, so peace is not the answer. Peace is the language of the oppressor, liberation and justice is the language of the oppressed.

Also if America backs someone and calls their opponents terrorists even through they funded them, does that mean the opponents are actually terrorists?
