  • Might seem petty, but sometimes purely to support the fediverse not just becoming Lemmy. And I just happened to join it first, at a time where the conversations I encountered there felt more fulfilling and not just a port of reddit speak

  • On top of elements already mentioned by others, an initial draw for me was the tenor of exchanges I was seeing on kbin. Of course the instances all interflow and I won't claim that Lemmy instances are not the same. But that was my initial experience. I like having a home base where there's some effort made to be communal and give thought out answers.

  • I'm not active in the sense of commenting much, but I am an avid lurker of the Skyrim mod communities. Not just because at some point I'll get back to playing skyrim, but also because they sort of maintain a bit of faith in humanity for me

  • It boils down to whether you argue in good faith. Even better, if you discuss in good faith. Asking a lot of questions that comes from a desire to learn or from curiosity usually lands differently then the disingenuous questioning of someone like a tankie

  • I saw a movie or, probably, an anime with this theme in the last year. People discover they are a simulation, manage to breach through to this race that is just lost in viewing virtual space. Wreck shit, go back.

  • Man, this is reminding of horror comic book story from like 40 years ago. Actress signs away the rights to her own appearance, has to be disfigured or something because she's no longer allowed to look like herself
