  • My understanding of NATO's articles is that article 4 guarantees protection against threats to a member nation's sovereignty, and article 5 guarantees military protection in the event of invasion. So it's a direct violation of article 4 from one founding member to another which is... Bad for the whole alliance lol.

I agree it's an insane thing for him to be talking about out of nowhere, but an overtly imperial USA (as opposed to its traditional denial of being an empire) against a close ally is something worth talking about.

  • Typical indicators of headlessness may include inability to think clearly, vertigo, deaf- or blindness, and in serious cases, death.

If you think you're experiencing headlnessness, gesture wildly towards the doctor's office to a friend. If you are also experiencing armlessness, please press #2.

  • I want to bandwagon onto this comment, as I fully agree. Buy timeless and good quality clothing.

I'm not overly trendy, but I always dress well. If you're not interested in chasing trends, make it so you can dress well without paying attention. A few high quality t-shirts, several pairs of good (maybe even expensive) jeans and/or chinos, a couple of jackets/blazers to step it up. Some dress shirts and some accessories (belts, shoes, etc). Some of the best pieces I have are old fashions: houndstooth, solid colors, plaids of various styles, and etc.

I would also advocate for supporting sustainable, or at least local, clothing companies as much as possible, but that's a personal value.

Finally, don't chase fashion. I had a modelling coach once who gave me the most important piece of clothing advice I've ever received: it's not what you're wearing, it's how you feel wearing it. If you feel good, you'll stand a little taller, smile a little more easily, and bring your best self to meet the world. I was wearing a $20 Walmart blazer. Just some food for thought. Good luck and have fun with it!

  • Haha no worries I think you make absolutely fair points regarding ethics and philosophy - these topics have to stand outside animalistic origins, as evolution only really asks "but will I survive?" Pausing for rational thought about the propriety of a behavior is unlikely to convey animalistic benefit.

Sociologically (?), on the face of it I think it's a little harder to extricate animalistic tendencies, as our herd behaviors are intrinsically related to our animalistic/psychological tendency - or maybe better said as they share a reciprocal relationship, feeding back into each other. But that said, I have no knowledge of sociology models so I'll defer to your assertion.

Either way, I think we're barking up the same tree with some variation in the importance of different factors, hey?

  • Oh dude no, it's a headache! I wrote to them once and they said it was an issue with the balance plate/sensor.

Apparently the quick fix is to click the bottom center of the trackpad 5x, then test it (I do so by clicking top corners). I find it hit and miss haha. Going inside, you can adjust the placement of that plate, but I never found that useful.

Did you notice if it seemed to improve a bit with time?

  • Great explanation - I find it does a phenomenal job of explaining a great deal of human behaviour. Resource hoarding despite enough for all, the will to dominate, visceral hatred of those who believe differently than us (ingroup vs. outgroup theory), and I'm sure there's more.

From a psychological viewpoint, it explains a lot of behavior that isn't necessarily reasonable unless you account for an irrational mind acting on modern problems - things that our minds weren't designed to handle.

    Edit: clarification

  • I can speak to longevity - I have a gen 1, batch 2 (humble brag?) - and absolutely love it. Got me to switch over to linux, and the quality is there. Minor gripe about the trackpad sticking intermittently, and had to have the hinges replaced (both known issues, resolved). 10/10 great laptop
