If I may present another hypothesis: this isn't a misunderstanding. It's a deliberate lie, a misrepresentation of the real issue to try to hide the fact that they know how sadistic their demands are and they're not willing to be honest about it.

By design. The people who create roadblocks like this don't want a functioning government. It gets in the way of their cruelty and exploitation of anyone who doesn't have their wealth or influence.

How long did it take to load? How portable was it? How easy was it to set it up and mow down a bunch of unsuspecting civilians before anyone had a chance to respond?

Republicans have spent decades hindering federal regulatory bodies when they can't order them to stand down completely. It may be regulatory failure, but it isn't all their fault. It's the fault of free market cultists who were inadvisably given the power to keep the government from doing its job.

Bullshit. This House is the one Republicans built, when they threw aside all norms and decided to be open about their power grabs. They telegraphed it in the late 2000s, and now it's become their new normal. Johnson was able to compromise with Republicans because back then Republicans were largely irrelevant and still followed the rules instead of making up bullshit precedents. They were still interested in governing.

So go on, tell me how you deal with modern politics when the other side isn't willing to negotiate in good faith. Be honest about the world we live in.

I get it, and I upvoted you. You're presenting their perspective of themselves. I felt compelled to go further and explain how that perspective fails.

I think it's disingenuous to draw that correlation. Yes, the Founding Fathers were in rebellion against their parent state. That's where the parallels end. Their parent state was also ruling from the other side of the ocean and allowing any representation for the colony's interests. What Trump proposes to do is to go back to that authoritarian rule, but under his control. His base loves that idea and wants to see him be someone like Putin, whom they idolize. Freedom for themselves, and slavery for everyone else.

I grant you, they see themselves as the patriotic heroes defending what they see as their patriotic stance. But the comparison fails under minimal scrutiny.
