  • Nordic societies are also largely homogenous. Sweden has seen massive increases in violent crime and poverty ever since they started allowing anyone in. America has a very similar policy with immigrants and it’s really difficult to create such an insular culture with such a large landmass and variety of people. Americans to view themselves as -Americans and you don’t get the same with the Norwegian’s or Icelanders. I’m all for the Nordic model in Nordic countries (less Sweden until they clean up their policies that are turning their country into the third world) but America needs a different form of social welfare, starting with UBI, universal education, and socialized healthcare.

  • I saw that, but it’s weird because Nielsen explicitly can’t do streaming views and state as much. Normally when streaming is discussed with any accurate measure we use SambaTV and even then we just multiply by 3 and say “that’s as close as we are going to get”.

  • Calling for the genocide of whites, men, straight people, certain political ideologies, praising the appropriation of Western European culture to “subvert” it and rewrite it, banning books, etc…

Edit: oh shit, thought Reddit was the delusional echo chamber, maybe it’s Lemmy, too.

  • This may be the one time I side with X. This seems like a massive first amendment right violation. Why did California choose to start now and not years ago when this became a problem. What constitutes a social media company? How will the government decide to regulate what is “controversial”. This law seems strange with a lot of gaping holes.

  • Reddit has been shit for over a decade now and the mods were a big reason for that. I’m completely switching to Lemmy by the end of the year and any subs that don’t exist on Lemmy that exist on Reddit I’ll just create myself. Maybe even write a bit that takes top posts from the niche reddit subs I like and posts them here to get people to convert.

  • This is the reason why for me, I actually took it one step further and rebuilt a front end news site with Django and shared the link out with friends who are interested in the same topics, added a discussion feature. Essentially, I have a python script that runs and pulls RSS feed data. If the whole article isn’t included then it uses Asyncio, aiohttp, and Beautifulsoup to pull in the article. Dump all that to a Postgres instance then have Django run on top of it. It’s like deconstructing news to reconstruct it
