I've used it a few years ago, it might have gotten better but when I was trying to use it it was annoying as fuck, cross-application links that you would expect to open the browser or whatever other app just didn't seem to work right and that was kind of a big deal for me since I use Slack a lot.

Also I'd imagine your disk usage would go through the roof with it.

I just don't see the point in it tbh, what was wrong with Linux package management as it is?

You're obnoxious. Hexbear is one of the largest instances, comparable to lemmy.ml which is where this was posted. There are also users from lemmy.ml and other instances agreeing with OP.

Just because there are some users that stumble upon content semi-organically doesn't mean brigading and piling on isn't happening.

Sorry I just don't buy into the ideology that the free market has this kind of "magic sauce" that makes everything innovative and better.

The early Internet was filled of people doing all kinds of cool things for free just because it was interesting to do, the only thing the private sector did is provide the base infrastructure, this is something the state can easily do too. All kinds of communities, FOSS software and media popped up and none of them had VC funding or expected any money out of it.

It was only in mid-late 2000 that capital really sank its teeth into the Internet properly.

You do realize the Internet first started being used by universities and the military, not the private sector, right? I see literally no reason why Internet infrastructure couldn't be publicly owned. It could function pretty much like any other public utility.

The reason online dating sucks isn't because of anything inherent to online dating but because of the profit motive.

I'll never mention anything on the plane of course because I realize the parents don't really have a choice and small children will inevitably act like small children but I can't really help being annoyed by their behavior either. Some people just don't like kids and that's fine too.
