  • Personally, I do mind ads. They exist purely to convince people to buy stuff. In most cases, they are dishonest, or at the very least present the products in a favorable manner that hides flaws people might deserve to know. And even good ads are a distraction from what I actually want to see or do.

I completely agree, ad companies have taken user tracking too far. It is absolutely scary how much ad companies know about my private life, and there's no realistic way to stop them. We really need better legislation.

  • Yes!! I enjoy playing with retro tech and was actually surprised on how much you can do with an ancient Pentium 2 machine, and how responsive the software at the time was.

I really dislike how inefficient modern software is. Like stupid chat apps that use more RAM while sitting in the background than computers had 15-20 years ago...

  • You want to expand your business to Europe. Bam, your code is broken, in Europe the week starts on Monday.

Than you want to expand to the middle east. Bam, broken again... Because in arab countries and Israel, the weekend is on Friday and Saturday.

Then you want to expand to Mexico and India. Bam, broken again, their weekend is only on Sunday.

  • A lot of people don't realize that this has been implemented and been used for a long time. In Romania, during communism, most major cities had infrastructure for using heat produced in factories and thermal (usually coal) power plants.

There are 2 ways in which it was implemented. One was to heat water into steam and to transport the steam using insulated pipes to local facilities that heat water. This can be more efficient, but the disadvantage is that working on pressurized steam pipes is really dangerous for the workers. There have been numerous accidents in the news about those.

Alternatively, you can simply transport hot water through insulated pipes to local facilities, these can heat the water additionally if the water isn't hot enough, and then it's distributed to homes.

The main issue in Romania is that these systems haven't been properly maintained in at least 30 years, a lot of heat gets lost and they tend to fail a lot, people get frustrated and disconnect from the network, the neighbors get a worse service because not enough hot water is consumed for the water in the pipes to not go cold and they disconnect too, and the system just gets worse and worse. Some cities have enacted a policy not allowing people to disconnect.

  • There are ways to prevent that, like alarms, notifying the police. These robots will absolutely have ways to be tracked at all times, cameras and all. You could also only use them for low value packages, so the effort is less worth it.

  • It's obvious that autonomous drones are more difficult to create than they seem... I think delivery robots that go on the ground are much safer and more feasible. They can carry heavier packages, they are less dangerous and can travel at less dangerous speeds.

  • Jellyfin or Plex media server on the NAS.

To view content, there are several options. Both servers have client apps for various platforms, this usually provides the most features and best experience. Another option is using a browser, both come with an integrated web server. The third option is through DLNA, which is a protocol for media streaming that many players already support, but it may be a bit more limited.

  • I think video platforms should be hosted by the government, like public libraries. They are very difficult to run at a profitable rate, and YouTube is basically a monopoly in this space. But it has an incredible value to society.

  • Australia had a problem with guns too, until the government stepped in. They had a program where people were paid for giving up their guns.

Limiting access to guns is such a simple thing to do, and has such a huge impact... It's not going to solve crime, but it will make crime less deadly.
