  • This morning I found a camera tucked away in the bottom of a drawer. It had no batteries but the memory card was still in it and I have no recollection of ever having bought it.

There are a grand total of 7 photos on it, including one of a random tree for no apparent reason. They're all dated the same day in 2015 so... I guess I kinda scored myself an old-but-unused camera. The thing I love the most about it is that it has actual buttons! They make clicky noises and everything! None of this newfangled touch nonsense that's impossible to use with gloves or fat fingers.

  • Physical activity; has been shown in multiple studies to help with emotional regulation. I’m sure that there are people who respond much better to physical activity for mental health.

Yeah, there's definitely a reason this has been floating around Tumblr for years:

  • I think you're right - but if a problem is festering then talking through it can be helpful. I'm not very good at articulating out loud so I end up dumping it out in a journal, where it probably makes even less sense but it's out of my head and I can draw a line under it and move on more easily. I like the idea of being more actively engaged though.

  • My dad built it - he pulled the whole thing apart and reassembled it. It's basically just a trough about eight inches off the ground, with a frame over the top for hanging bird netting over. He actually did a really job and could probably make some pocket money flicking them on the local facebook page.

  • Calibre?

I have a Kobo and love it, although I've just cancelled my subscription for a few months. It's nice to be able to read what you want without people seeing what the front cover is ;-)

  • I think I've found part of tonight's dinner in the 1974 edition of the New Zealand Women's Weekly Cookbook. I love old cookbooks, they use fairly plain, easy-to-source ingredients and took clogging arteries as a personal challenge. That said, I'm only going to use half the cheese for this experiment. Probably.

  • I'm thinking I'll post a photo challenge this Friday and then have a thread next Friday for everyone to post their snaps. I usually get inspired on the weekends then forget during the week so having a week to get sorted will be good. If anyone has any prompts or ideas feel free to post them because I'll probably resort to Pinterest lists and they're probably not going to appeal to everyone 😆

And then there will be a post on Monday demanding to see your hobbies are because I'm nosy and in need of inspiration, lol.

  • No, I don't, and I've never really thought about it before. Being able to look at something objectively has never really been on my mind and with everything moving towards extremes (everything being climate and politics, the two favourite chew toys of the media) I guess it's something I've sort of fallen into.

I guess there's comfort in finding something that supports your own opinion and looking for competing ideas seems a bit like looking for something to stress about.

Cheers for the thought, that's given me something to ponder on the way to work this morning 🤔

  • General pessimism this morning. Would anyone be interested in a couple of weekly threads showcasing non-misery-inducing things? I'm thinking maybe a thread to show off things we've made ourselves (building projects, cakes etc) or maybe a photo challenge?

  • Unfortunately I think Facebook is non-negotiable at this point. Stuff's FB presence is probably their biggest outside their own site and would mean sacrificing too much of their audience.

It would be great if they started their own instance though. Tooting their own horn about it would be a good introduction to people who haven't tried the fediverse yet.

  • I journal in the mornings whilei have my coffee. It's become a hugely important ritual and helps me figure out if I really have a reason to stress myself out (spoiler: generally I'm imagining stuff for the sake of being miserable).

Aside from that, about the only time I'm not in front of a screen is when I'm awake at some random hour of the night.

That's actually a really good question, I hadn't really thought about it much and probably need to make some changes.
