  • Answer to the first part of the question: cowboys.

I once started writing an anti-cowboy song by singing the lyrics to myself quietly while waiting for something or other on a sidewalk. A guy in a parked car with open windows overheard me and complimented the tune. I've yet to take on the task of finding someone to play the banjo part to record it. The lyrics are pretty hostile and inappropriate, so I won't share them here. Suffice to say, I hate cowboys.

    Looking at you, Texas.

  • The service is now limited to invited users, who agree to the terms of Tesla’s “early access program.” Those who have received invites are mostly promoters of Tesla’s products, stock and CEO.

"We only want sycophants talking about our bullshit service."

Well guess what? The rest of us can see the cars from the outside. Fail.

  • I had a meeting today that was awesome.

    Other: There's nothing to do.

Me: Ok, if there's nothing to do then that's fine.

    Other: Ok, thanks.

Me: Hope you have a good day.

    Other: You too, bye.

This is completely counter to my previous job, where we'd spend two hours talking about nothing and I'd quietly seethe with anger.

  • Simply powering up the SSD on occasion does not help. SSDs get slower over time, the parts of the SSD hosting the operating system mostly gets read, not written, and those sectors degrade, slowing down the computer. At least in the Windows world reinstalling Windows speeds up the computer for this reason.

    Head's up.

  • According to Russian state-owned news agency TASS, Muromsky, Bessonov, Golovachuk, and Korotaev confirmed they were involved in REvil activities between October 2015 and January 2022, and primarily targeted US citizens.

Oh, well then. This makes sense.

  • I email my work account because I don't check work emails when I'm not at work. I once considered creating an automation system for emailing my personal address and having those emails get added to a to-do list, but didn't ever pull the trigger.

I sms myself information when it's going to be relevant shortly after, but otherwise my notes live in Simplenote and have for years. It syncs across my devices.

  • I was a year older than my gf (decades ago) and she lived with her folks. It's weird staying over with someone's parents. Just accept it. It's even weirder at 25, I'm sure.

  • This article didn't make sense to me. Unclear how this guy is funding this weird behavior. This reporting of seemingly-random bizarre events reads like I'm on drugs. I'm not disputing their characterization of the dude as a pedo (he's convicted of sex with two underage kids), I just feel like the way this is reported seems like watching a post-modern movie where you're not sure if you understood the plot at the end.

  • With the orange admin cutting programs for rural healthcare, broadband, etc, I wouldn't risk it. He's harming people in rural areas at a lightning pace.

Further: my father was still playing hockey with younger guys while he was in his 70s. He was very active. His decline from that to death took about three years. He grew less and less mobile after an injury (playing hockey like a lunatic) and then broke his hip and that was it.

  • I chose to stop wearing a watch more than 20 years ago. I thought about getting one for the health benefits five years ago, but concluded that I don't want to have a watch nor cover an awesome tattoo. As a friend once wrote, "wearing a watch is like being handcuffed to time."
