I'd agree with Mark Twain on this one, I don't exactly wish anyone to die but I'll read some obituaries with satisfaction, paraphrased.

I worked in congress in 2002 after I graduated. The congressman I worked for was old to me then. I saw him on tv the other day and the guy looked one foot in the grave. I hadn't thought about him in years and then I saw him and I'm like dude wtf why are you still working?! It's shocking.

My understanding is that communities require children to continue existing. People in this thread are saying they don't want children because climate change. My position is that that opinion is really stupid, and what you just said about communities would suggest you feel the same.

They still love America over there because of that! Definitely check out Bosnia and Albania if you ever get a chance. And it's a really cool region in general.

Don't forget seeing kids their age murdered in classrooms just about every day!

I don't know a lot of teens but the handful I do know all tell me that active shooter drills are extremely terrifying and traumatic, because they aren't told in advance if it is real or not, so they never know if they're about to get fucking murdered. Teachers don't know either. Can you imagine? They're going to be able to vote in 2024 and all told me they're voting down the line democrat, even though we are in a blood red city in a reddish purple state.

So far my experience on lemmy has been users talking about how much they hate reddit and how awesome lemmy is, and shitty awful lemmy users being shitty and awful to me. I'm pretty unimpressed so far.

No. We have a long ways away before the human population will be wiped out due to climate change...Not everything is hopeless. We have a lot of bright scientists...

I said something similar in a thread yesterday and got savagely shat on by everyone. The thread was about people literally not having children because they're worried about climate change. I said have kids if you want, don't if you don't, but it's insane to make such a major life decision based on some nebulous calamity that may or may not happen in your lifetime, or at all. I'm extremely concerned about climate change but goddamn some people are nuts.

Have kids if you want. It's just insane to me to plan your entire life and make major decisions on a cataclysm that may or may not even occur in your lifetime; and it (climate change) may present in ways that we can't even imagine now.

My advice is to live your life as best as you can without worrying too much about things you can't control. Try and build a life around yourself that'll help you be happy through it all, regardless of what happens. Enjoy your 20's. 30's are good too and 40's don't suck either.

I agree with you except for the fact that oil companies have known about climate change for many decades and have actively paid for pseudo-science studies and other disinformation, plus lobbying, to minimize regulation and maximize profit. So they can go fuck themselves for that.
