  • The guy got up on stage ON ELECTION NIGHT before the votes had even been counted and started screaming about fraud. I remember Mike Huckabee on CNN condemning it, as well as the Faux News team covering it, because it was just unthinkable. Then they got their story straight and remembered who's ass their tongue is buried in, and fell in line. Bunch of traitors, the lot of them.

  • On two occasions I have been asked, 'Pray, Mr. Babbage, if you put into the machine wrong figures, will the right answers come out?' I am not able rightly to apprehend the kind of confusion of ideas that could provoke such a question.

  • Yeah seriously lol that's what they were saying 20 friggin years ago and it was okay at best. Idk how it's come along since then but honestly Windows is quite stable now, I literally can't remember the last time I got a bsod or had any real issues. I used to screw around with different builds and dual booting, had strong opinions about which boot loader was best etc, these I just don't see the point. All I use my computer for is web browsing and excel.

  • Ever seen Charlie Wilson's War? Best movie I've ever seen on the subject. The last scene was so potent, minor spoiler: when Tom Hanks' character is fighting for reparations money, and nobody gives a shit about building schools in Pakistan. He just sighs and facepalms, and says, 'it's Afghanistan. We're talking about Afghanistan.' Really illuminates how we got to where we are right now.

  • As opposed to the person who pushes the button to turn on the nitrogen? Or the person who pushes the lethal injection plunger into your veins? Or the person who throws the switch on the electric chair?

    We're talking about state sanctioned murder so idk what you could possibly propose that insulates everyone from trauma.

    All this because I said I'd take a firing squad by the way if it came down to it. My choice. Just back off dude seriously, idk why you're trying to start a ruckus over this.

  • It definitely has its moments and it scratches that itch when you really want classic 90s Trek but you've watched TNG/DS9/VOY a zillion times each and want something new.

    The comforting ambient hum of the engines really does the trick. That sound is conspicuously missing from New Trek (besides, you know, creative integrity?).

  • Enterprise is watchable and has that classic 90's trek feel to it. That said, I can barely name or identify a single character on the show or tell you anything about their character, personality, hopes fears dream strengths weaknesses etc.

    Captain Archer, has a pet dog, is pretty down to earth and chill I guess..that's pretty much it...

    There's a guy with a southern accent from I dunno maybe Louisiana? He likes catfish. Those are pretty much his only defining features.

    T'pol is a stoic emotionless boring Vulcan. There's a pretty sexy and out of place scene with her and some other scantily clad attractive characters in a space sauna that didn't seem appropriate for Star Trek but whatever. She seems annoyed and judgmental about humans. That's about it for her personality.

    The bird like doctor guy is kinda weird. Can't tell you much about him.

    That's pretty much all I got. There's really just nothing else to say about any of these characters. I can write books about Captain Picard, Janeway, data, sisko, et all.

    Tl;Dr Poor character development bugs me the most about enterprise

  • Notice how they're experts on everything in general too, not just their specific computer niche? Particularly governance, finance, tax, fucking crypto and how it'll change all of the above, etc. Easily the most insufferable demographic as you say.

  • Remember when r/AMA used to be about things like researchers in fields you aren't familiar with talking about things you haven't heard of before but found interesting. Or someone who had just accomplished something interesting. Then at some point it just turned into a PR mouthpiece for actors and celebs promoting their new whatever.

    I used to be on a bunch of forums and communities for niche interests. Then reddit and facebook et al destroyed them, like the wal marts of the internet destroying local communities. I was genuinely friends with many online strangers, like real actual bona fide friends, and suddenly our local digital hangouts were destroyed. End of an era. I'd love for those to pop up again but I wouldn't know where to begin finding them now.

  • It "drives engagement." The old marketing trope that sex sells has given way to rage sells. Piss people off, get them involved in a pointless internet debate, push that dopamine button in your brain because you're right and that asshole is wrong and this is why, and boom, another social media addict. Oh hey what's this, a funny meme? Sure I'll click that and maybe reply in that thread too...

    It's super effective.

  • Yeah it's the exact same shit on Lemmy, only the difference is that reddit is mostly self aware, and Lemmy goes around jerking off while huffing its own farts like its so much better than Reddit. It's really weird.
