I joined Lemmy with every intention to contribute and make a significant donation as well. But after getting banned and dogpiled for daring to say things like "Russia shot down a civilian airplane" and "the ML theory you are referencing does say what you claim it says," I'm also here to say the fediverse will be better without cringe keyboard warriors like Dessalines and transphobes like Nutomic being involved with it. There are other projects to support.

If you don't have any additional physics, math or engineering specialty on top of software skills, things are pretty crowded. Anyone can learn to write decent software. It's really never been a traditional academic topic for the most part, and AI is definitely making that worse.
