These are the goldfish voters. If they do not have their knowledge and beliefs reaffirmed every 27 seconds, they revert to a blank political slate. The GOP has figured it out - these people are the reason why "bumper sticker politics" is so effective. The goldfish phenomenon perfectly explains every paradox and confounding effect in the history of political odds-making - that there is a shockingly large contingent of voters out there whose entire political identity is effectively defined by the most recent political message they attentively received.

I'm more alarmed at the conversation in this thread about migrating these cobol apps to java. Maybe I am the one who is out of touch, but what the actual fuck? The people I have spoken to in China understand something happened, and most of them know that it was the suppression of a student protest movement. From there the knowledge diverges as to what kind of protest movement and how violent was the suppression and whether it was justified. My family will kind of halfheartedly repeat some version of the party line but acknowledge it was a fucked up situation, and they also understand that the censorship surrounding it is awkward and unnecessary.

Generally the Chinese I have spoken to are mostly aware of and opposed to the CCP's censorship, but they also don't really like to talk about it for obvious reasons.
