Yeah fuck that. As a Dutch citizen it should be up to our government to decide whether we let ASML export. But no, it's got to be the Americans.

The average car age in the EU is 12 years old. Even in richer member states the average is often over 10 years (germany: 10.1, Netherlands: 11.4)

So at least in that part of the world, most people absolutely do keep a vehicle for 10+ years.

Please realize Northern European winters are... dark. It's not the cold that matters much, it's the darkness for months on end that can be seriously detrimental to mental health if you're not used to it.

It'd worse than things like Temu. With that you just know you're buying cheap knockoffs with let's say questionable quality. On Amazon, you don't know what quality you're getting, for a worse price, and even worse delivery times (my last purchase from Amazon took 2 months to deliver. For a book!).

I get paid per month, but in May I get an 8% bonus, so my monthly payment is not the same throughout the year. Then my partner gets paid every 4 weeks, and receives bonuses based on company performance in those 4 weeks. So every payment is different.

Per annum is the only way we can compare our salaries. And that's in the same country. Now try international, and it'll really difficult otherwise soon.

Netherlands, thirties, own a manual transmission car. In fact, I have only ever driven manuals.

Maps is also seriously going down the gutter.

1. There are ads in maps now.
2. It works OK if you know a name, but not the location, but not the other way around. If there's any concentration of businesses, you can zoom in all you want but it will only show 1 in 2 places.
3. Many search terms now result in residential places near the top results. I suppose these are mostly small webshops run out of homes for the same terms, but that isn't usually what one is looking for when using maps.
