  • That's not all I wrote, but yeah, I just shared my opinion and you don't have to agree with any of it. If you don't like it, you don't like it.

  • I haven't bought physical in a while, but hearing about such stories more and more. It sounds specially annoying when they do that with collectors edition. These are their hard-core fans / customers, at least don't short-change them.

  • Ah cool, I haven't used optical disks in a long time. Still remember needing CD-writer, with discs needing to be special re-writeable ones.

  • Some publishers do provide full working game on disc. Most Nintendo first party games are like that, and in Switch 2 games most notable is Cyberpunk 2077 for releasing everything on the cart.

  • That does sound really cool. I am not sure it would be possible with optical disks, but should be technically possible with the cartridges etc. And yeah, don't expect it to actually happen.

  • Everything has pros and cons. Currently there are physical collector editions, that don't actually have a game on disc, just a download code. Similarly, some collections are sold with one game on disk, rest a downloadable code. These codes are one-use only and can't be sold again.

Game key carts solve that problem. Instead of just putting a one-time code, they can use game-key cart, which people can use multiple times.

As for games installing on internal memory instead of the cart, yes, it works like all other downloads. The game that have partial data on disc, or any update that's downloaded. Or every single PS / Xbox game because they can't run directly from optical drive, so you have to copy the full data, download the updates, and still can't play without the disc.

You shouldn't think of a "digital" game. Those who want digital will just download digital. You should think of it as a physical game that has very little data on cart and rest is all a download (like Doom: Dark Ages shared below, just 85MB on disk, rest is a download)

The biggest con IMO is that some companies who were willing to release a cart with full or partial data may decide to go for the game-key cart since it's a official thing now, and average people buying it may not see any difference. So, I hope the collectors vote with wallet and ask the publishers to release full game on disk instead of using game-key carts.

  • Well, if you play it before I get to it, let me know your review.

  • Ah, nice to know. I added it to my wishlist, but didn't had very high hopes for it.

  • Yeah, you need to be level 30 for buying skells, fortunately I am level 29 so shouldn't be too long.

About high level enemies, I agree other Xenoblade games had them everywhere too, but it I don't think they were right in middle of where you had to go. For instance take that Bezos affinity mission. It's level 20, but the whole place is filled with level 48 monsters. Even with skell I had to run away 3 times before I could go in.

Fortunately, running away is very easy (at least for now) with skell, so not too worried about it anymore.

Thanks for the tip about separate save. Have started doing that now.

BTW those "get stuff from FrontNav mining" are pretty annoying. Went to start Chapter 7, but it requires me to do the "Close Encounter" mission, and that requires you to get something from FrontNav, and I hadn't placed that particular FrontNav yet, so now I have to wait for a while, when I don't have any other level appropriate mission that I can do.

Good thing it's not my first Xenoblade, I can ignore most of the stuff telling myself that it's a decade old game, and the latest games in the series are way more streamlined.

Edit: LMAO, the Ares 90 is ridiculous. I just got it, added three Weapon Attack XX mods on the Agashura Cannon, and did a quick test… here’s what happened.

lol, when do I get that Skell?

  • Heh, how's PlanetSide? Not a MMO guy so don't know much about it.

  • Nice. Have heard great things about Blue Prince but skeptical cause of rouge-like nature. Not a big fan of the genre.

  • How much bullet hell-ish is this?

  • If we can do 4.5M this fiscal year, then can't we do 4-5 Million in next year or two? PS2 just jumped 10M recently because of all the consoles they sold in last couple of decades.

  • While I agree with sentiment that this is outrageous, Sony has similar clause in their PS5 SSLA. Which of course doesn't make it correct, but why not pressure both for change?

Interesting point is that UK EULA doesn't mention bricking but only disabling the use of that software.

  • You can only share with your Family Group, but yeah, this is a good way to share digital games between different Switch in your home.

  • I agree with you. Before Switch 2 announced (or leaked), everyone was talking about how Nintendo shouldn't add some gimmick just for the sake of adding gimmick and just give us a better and faster Switch. Nintendo gave people exactly what they asked for, and everyone is complaining about it 😀

There's a famous quote by Steve Jobs:

Some people say give the customers what they want, but that’s not my approach. Our job is to figure out what they’re going to want before they do. I think Henry Ford once said, “If I’d ask customers what they wanted, they would’ve told me a faster horse.” People don’t know what they want until you show it to them. That’s why I never rely on market research. Our task is to read things that are not yet on the page.

I guess that's where Nintendo failed us. They gave us exactly what we wanted. Well, that and a mouse.

  • Consoles sales at 152.12M

Just need 8 Million more console sales to reach #1!

2 Million more to cross Nintendo DS!

  • There are somethings we don't talk about in public. 😉

  • If we talk about third party games, they are generally priced the same. Some games have slightly higher price at Switch, but I have also seen games that have slightly higher price on PS, and most game have very similar "lowest sale price".

You are completely right about the first party games, and the PS+ though.
