Mine got me diagnosed. She was frustrated because I burned out senior year and went from straight As to deliberately failing. One of my teachers demanded a conference and insisted I see a specialist. When the medication became too expensive after her divorce, she gaslighted me into thinking it wasn’t a real disorder. I ended up quitting college because of that. I still can’t help but hold that over her head sometimes.
I wasn’t able to explain exactly what I was going through until I was older. I thought everyone was like me, I suppose, even though eventually I knew I was different. Being ostracized by classmates helped that realization set in.
Both parents are more accepting and have apologized since realizing how debilitating it can be. However, without them experiencing it I still don’t think they fully understand. There needs to be some kinda VR simulation for that or something.
I mostly use my Mac for business stuff, art and coding. The PC spends most of its time on offloaded AI tasks and rendering jobs. It was originally a toy for gaming but I’d rather use my Steam Deck for that now.
Mostly tiny irksome things that cause me to have to set up for calls 10 minutes early because I’m not sure if it’s going to behave and I can’t be “late.” The latest is the window not opening on startup even though it’s running on (MacOS). Restarting resolves. Sometimes it doesn’t do it. No idea why.
Also, minor quibble but I don’t personally like that it seems to follow that annoying UI/UX “we know what’s best for you” philosophy as Gnome does where it only shows you what you “need” to see. I get it, but I’m sorta set in my ways in how I expect UIs to act. If you’re new to it, it’s especially aggravating until you’ve used it for a while.
Going to dump it when the wife's done with school. I was only keeping it for that and one game. So sick of subscriptions and the product isn't even good except for Excel.
Watched some documentary ages ago and pigeons’ reaction times are so fast it’s almost like we move in slow motion to them. 250ms is the average for humans without training and pigeons trained to peck when a certain stimuli was presented showed theirs is roughly 80ms. Smaller birds are even faster. Pretty neat.
He’s definitely a fuck your feelings type. No nonsense and sometimes harsh but like you said it’s almost always justified. I’ll take that over fake ass, greedy LTT Linus “oops I got caught so now I’ll apologize or try to hide it and then apologize” any day of the week.
I noticed when I do volunteer work I look forward to getting my hands dirty and the physical labor involved. I quip to my wife that I'm going to go be a mailman or learn a trade, etc., but I'm semi-serious. 20+ years of ups and downs and it feels like IT is valued in general less and less. Even if a company does everything "right" like the video describes... a lot of companies are still quite toxic to work for overall. It's compounded by the fact that changing jobs in the field is painful now with multiple interviews required, etc. in a very crowded pool of talent.
Do it. It's not like it has to be permanent if you end up not liking it.
