Remember kids, piracy and shoplifting are your friends. Reason I say shoplifting is this will be used to block you from paying for stuff online, just look at how google pay is blocked on non google approved spyware Roms

I feel the same doomerism that it just won't be legally possible to own your servers, and it will be that only corpos are trusted by the big governments to operate platforms. I feel like we are in a battle right now and they won't win in the end. I also think it's helpful to watch the various big platforms implode recently, it signals to congress that maybe we can do a better job than facebook. I also feel decentralization is key honestly, if I host my instance in some place that does not really care about these anti encryption laws there is not a ton another nation can do about it, and if it's decentralized it becomes even harder

Its cause mastodon is more dominate player in the fediverse, pretty much all instances run mastodon.

My main concern is propriety extensions being embraces and meta breaking things like content warnings. In general imagine you pretty much needing meta services in order to get basic functionality and you seeing the effects of meta regardless of your choice to federate with them

Meta is most likely planning on adding propriety extensions to the fediverse kinda like how android is Foss but pretty much alls apps depend on Google

I'm not gonna say lemmy couldn't try of add federated delete functions but I feel ultimately federation comes with risk, I dont like the fact lemmy is ran by tankies, I really wish KBin had apps but I feel like this could be an issue no matter what

I might recommend those too, the reason I was looking for Calckey specifically is it has many of the features bsky has, like custom feeds vis antennas and such. Calckey also seems to have a less clunky UI and quote posting

yeah lack of mature apps is real, it's a big issue on android. on iOS at least they have that paid client ivory which is pretty good

Yeah but most non tech people don't know what that or end to end encryption is cause schools didnt teach this stuff. and likely never will without causing end to end encryption to get banned

One thing I hate is while I dont trsut metas encryotion, it isnt even a default which at this point in American history is just irresonabile and reckless. It sucks we can't teach about open source in schools.

I never did, I did manage to fix my issue with steam launching but this issue is still there.
