  • Man I'm the complete opposite. I grew up in the hood, if you had nice things, you wouldn't have them for long.

Driving nice cars and wearing name brand clothes just states "I have more money than you and I'm proud of it" which is a) universally a dick move, especially when you drive that fancy car past a dozen homeless every day, and b) makes you a mark. Oh you're driving a Benz? You've probably got valuables in it, let's take a look.

Nowadays I still drive a beat up old car and wear off brand clothes, both because I can't afford better but I also don't want to even look like I can afford better for the above reasons. It's just being an ass and also putting a target on yourself.

  • I've begun worshipping the sun for a number of reasons. First of all, unlike some other gods I could mention, I can see the sun. It's there for me every day. And the things it brings me are quite apparent all the time: heat, light, food, and a lovely day. There's no mystery, no one asks for money, I don't have to dress up, and there's no boring pageantry. And interestingly enough, I have found that the prayers I offer to the sun and the prayers I formerly offered to 'God' are all answered at about the same 50% rate.

  • Love my guy George. Listening to Cardboard Castles got me through a really rough time in my life and I don't expect to ever be able to repay it. Least I can do is to spread the word.

  • Braindead former humans wander the land aimlessly and cause huge problems for everyone else.

    They're the same picture

  • If your hardware is lower end it isn't useless. If I skip that then I get pretty bad stuttering in some games when new things are loaded in. If I let them cook in advance then that doesn't happen.

If your GPU is good enough (or your game potato-friendly enough) to compute shaders on the fly without issue then yeah it's pretty much useless.

  • Steve Bannon, as much of a piece of shit as he is, had a good plan and executed it well. He's talked about it openly. This has been brewing for decades, at least.

  • That's essentially how they wrote the song, so yeah! I can see it. I'd watch this.

  • If you approach it with the right attitude it's not so bad. I view it the same way I do with fighting games. If I get smoked in an 82-0 losing streak that just means I had a great practice sesh with someone clearly better than me and I should be taking notes. As long as you keep agreeing to rematch me I'll keep losing and learning.

  • It comes down to how much the publishers care about their own product. Devs shoveling third party kernel anti-cheat into their product often cause those games to be Linux incompatible. Devs bundling their own unnecessary launcher with the game and requiring it to run the launcher in order to run the game sometimes cause those games to be Linux incompatible. It often isn't even the devs themselves making this decision, which is why I blame the publisher more than the developers in most cases.

But with how robust Proton has become these days there isn't a whole lot outside of those two cases that will make a game not run on Linux. It's pretty intentional at this point.

  • So please explain then? I'd love to know why a stranger on the internet thinks that financially contributing to industrialized murder is funny. Please do elaborate.

  • It's objectively not an opinion, where the fuck do you think that money goes?

And sure, $20 here doesn't matter. When a million other people also invest $20 "as a gag" or more trying to make a profit, whoops, that's $20 million plus worth of death. They don't make anything else. Only death.

  • For directly and unapologetically funding the death and destruction of human lives?

    Yes. Yes you are.

  • I don't like his movies but I respect his hustle. He has enough money to approach an agent and tell them "I want to make this movie, I want to cast all my friends in it, and I want my character to walk away with a hot date at the end" and the agent just says okay.

They're pretty much all the same movie with different names on them. But it's pretty clear that everyone involved in those movies was just having a great time making them.

  • This is news to me, but I hardly know everything there is to know about him.

Any specifics? I would like to know. I recommend his books frequently.

  • You don't see how cultural relevance has caused HBO to cut JK Rowling a check in order to make this show, which she then turns around and donates to anti-trans organizations?

Pirate or not, people watching and interacting with this stuff and talking about it with other people keeps it in the public consciousness. As long as it remains part of the zeitgeist then Rowling continues to profit from it.

It's quite easy to find other, better stories about wizards that don't directly fund bigotry. I recommend Dresden Files.
