  • There's no such a thing as good ads. Not even before the internet.

  • yay, I'm glad I can buy a spare proprietary connector from Apple Inc™

  • fuck paying Nintendo for life. I hope he can move to a country where Nintendo won't be able to enforce anything and start a new life. He committed a victimless crime which shouldn't even be a crime IMO and even worse, he was imprisoned for it. And now he has to live as a slave for Nintendo the rest of his life?

I don't really know which countries would legally shield him from Nintendo's bullshit tho.

  • they can just import bookmarks and open your last session's tabs.

most extensions will be available too. they could check which ones you have in Firefox and install the ones available for Edge.

there would be some things missing, sure, but most people wouldn't notice the difference immediately.

  • Microsoft can pull the same trickery with Firefox users. It's their OS, after all.

  • oh I didn't know wikimedia was also a for profit in disguise. that sucks hard.

  • I could be wrong, but I believe you only disclose your IP to your Lemmy instance.

  • I don't get why you're getting dowvoted. I guess there are a lot of Americans over here. But your statement is absolutely true. The US attempts at restricting China's access to various technologies only make sense if they feel threatened by them.

  • if I were almost completely paralysed and someone promised me being able to interface with a computer, I think I'd at least consider the offer.

  • I wonder if it could do it faster than Chrome manages.

It would probably be the same time, Edge is just Microsoft Chrome after all.

  • it definitely is, tho.

of course they could steal your code, but you could steal theirs. you could steal their software. you could steal their paywalled articles. you could steal all those things that are affected by artificial scarcity. They have much more to loose if copyright gets abolished.

In an ideal world, I'd make copyright to be 5 years for individuals and abolished for corporations. But the world is far from ideal and individuals have much to win if copyright gets abolished as a whole.

  • writing software that does things for us is the only purpose of computers. LLMs are far from "true" AI but still they are useful for a bunch of tasks.

ban their use in creative works, of course nobody wants to read a book written by an AI. but let me have a LLM to use as a tool.

  • everyone got your "sarcasm". you're the one being dense here. Nitter was a useful tool for those who have left twitter but needed to access information posted there. It didn't benefit Twitter in anyway, so there was 0 downsides in using it.

the fact that you make fun of a useful community tool shutting down is why you're deservedly being downvoted to hell

  • you need permission to profit off of the works of others.

but that's exactly what I said. you can't grab an image of Mario from google and profit from it as you can't draw a fan art of Mario and profit from it as well as you can't generate an image of Mario and profit from it.

It doesn't matter if you're generating it with software or painting it on canvas, if it contains intellectual property of others, you can't (legally) use it for profit.

however, generating it and posting it as a meme on the internet falls under fair use, just like using original art and making a meme.

  • bluesky depends on one single entity. they promised a lot about their protocol, but they have yet to show that other instances other than the official one can operate in a fully independent manner.

  • instead of basing your definition of AI on SciFi, base it on the one computer scientists have been using for decades.

and of course, AI is the buzzword right now and everyone is using it in their products. But that's another story. LLMs are AI.

  • So basically you would want every device to use a nonexistent updated lightning just because "it feels better"? Are you aware that lightning is a proprietary connector?

Additionally, USB-C debuted only two years later than lightning, so age is no excuse here.

  • separate the phone branch from the desktop computer branch. that'd be a good start.

I understand the logic behind not wanting to separate hardware and software, that's the only selling point Apple has over any other manufacturer. So just make the iPhone a different company.
