  • Misleading title. From the article,

Asked whether "scaling up" current AI approaches could lead to achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI), or a general purpose AI that matches or surpasses human cognition, an overwhelming 76 percent of respondents said it was "unlikely" or "very unlikely" to succeed.

In no way does this imply that the "industry is pouring billions into a dead end". AGI isn't even needed for industry applications, just implementing current-level agentic systems will be more than enough to have massive industrial impact.

  • Get a large pack of nice, no-added-sugar Muesli. Get a regular supply of curd from your local dairy.

Add a wholesome serving of Muesli to ~8oz of curd (and maybe a few drops of honey) every night, and leave it in the fridge. You're set for a nice, tasty and fulfilling breakfast each morning.

  • Anybody who used ANY library to process xslx knows MS keeps changing it :-)

I highly doubt that, also, people in corporate finance do not use libraries to process excel files.

About ranges… can you give me the range for whole columns minus 6 first records and 9 last records?

=OFFSET(first_cell, 7, COLUMNS(range_name), ROWS(range_name)-9-7) where range_name is the label given to the whole table and first_cell is its first cell.

  • Try to write a formula range which covers only lower half of the column which is typical setup in summing numbers( avoiding headers )

You can literally label ranges to use them as variables in Excel formulae, not to mention Excel Tables has more operations and features than you'll ever need.

    limits in columns and records

Unless you are working with an unfiltered, un-aggregated ledger dump straight out of your database (in which case you shouldn't be let anywhere near an office computer), it's rather hard to cross 1M+ rows and 16.4k columns in corporate finance.

    ever changing formats across versions

The .xlsx format was introduced in 2007 (18 years ago) and hasn't changed since. Not to mention you can still use all kinds of plaintext formats whenever you want.

  • Only those with no experience in corporate finance will find this surprising.

Excel is a powerful tool. The only ones who ridicule it are idiots who don't understand anything.

  • cynical (/ˈsɪnɪkl/) adjective

    • concerned only with one's own interests and typically disregarding accepted standards in order to achieve them.

Technically all corporations and enterprises in a free market have to adhere to that description, by design. Corporations are fundamentally social structures built for one and one purpose only - creating value for shareholders.

  • Should I just declare to never talk about politics with them again since it’s pointless?

Yes. I thought that was obvious, when have you ever seen children being able to convert their parents?

  • Social skills are not something you can "learn" by questioning things like this. You have to live more of your life among people.

It's like swimming - you can't learn to swim no matter how much you study about it, read books or ask questions. You have to get into the water. And the first couple of times you're in the water you'll drown, tire out, may even feel frustrated or bad. But you'll only be able to swim by going back in, over and over until you start floating. So it is with socializing with people.

  • What exactly are you hoping to achieve by rooting your phone btw?

From what I know rooting used to make sense back in the 2015's when the Android market used to be littered with shitty OEM OS's filled to the brim with bloatware, ads and restricted functionality. Rooting or installing custom ROMs used to give a very tangible boost to performance in those times. But nowadays most OEMs (except the ultra-cheap Chinese ones) have settled down to a uniform stock-Android-like design with minor design tweaks, and hardware has also improved to the level that it's extremely rare to notice comparable lags. I know Motorola is one of those who prefer to keep their UI as close to stock Android as possible.

  • The likes of FMovies and movie-web offer a virtually unlimited catalogue that contains everything you could ever stream, for free. And their streaming quality is almost always at par with Netflix, if not more. There is zero rational reason why anyone would turn to those "legit" streaming platforms if they know about them.

The only thing separating is app support on smart TVs. It's Game Over once TVs start allowing PWAs and ad-blocking browsers (do they already? I don't know).
