Since they were bought by private equity I would say they are probably worse than Air Canada - although I haven't flown with AC in ages, so it's hard to compare.

This part is a little disturbing:

I agree and I don't trust them or the government to do anything about it...

But, by giving them a chance to do something first, they will have no defence if gets to the point where there needs to be additional regulations.
