  • I have been on Mastodon almost daily for 5 years, and I've got absolutely no idea how you have found "all the edgy fascists" on there. I mean sure, if your only experience is on truth.social i expect you'd see that type of content and nothing else. But besides truth.social, I don't really know where you'd manage to dig it up. Must be hard work lol.

  • do "high-IQ" individuals even exist on the republican isle? why would a lefty want to get involved in this shit, especially unpaid? what idiot would accept unpaid labour under a multi-billionaire?

  • my bingo card is almost full, just missing universal basic income - people with money, spend money, supporting businesses and thus "the economy".

  • that's not how the modern internet works and unfortunately i am forced to be on facebook because all 4 of my hobbies no longer exists outside of it.

if people moved to the fediverse instead of bluesky or such, then we'd actually be able to have a fragmented internet again - due to how the fediverse interconnects through federation.

which i think is the best selling point the fediverse have - no longer would users need to be on multiple services, they could just be on one, and still interact with the services across the fediverse. but unless there is a mass-migration of one single service to the fediverse, such as people choosing mastodon over bluesky, to be the dominant service - it's just never going to happen.

  • ads, eye-ball algorithm, data sales - looks like you love the trifecta of feces. sure you ain't a fly?

  • just like reddit is a nice alternative to digg ammirite?

we're on lemmy for a reason mate. if digg is the equivalent of x, then reddit is the equivalent of bluesky, and lemmy is the equivalent of mastodon.

one of those three are not like the other, and one will stick around while the others won't, because capitalism.

  • duet 3i or the ARM versions only?

  • there is only one or two features i miss in the affinity suite; but been working with it exclusively for the past 3 months (after owning it for years), and i'm never looking back.

although their refusal to support linux and the linux work-arounds being incredibly spotty has made me consider just giving up and moving onto gimp etc. i have tried to replace photoshop with gimp in the past but it's just too inconvenient to do "the same things" so i always give up half way through the learning process.

i really wish affinity would try to at least offer a hand to the linux community; it's somewhat upsetting that they have rejected any and all linux efforts.

  • the real problem is moving from twitter (x), to twitter (bluesky). expecting it to be better/different. just like all these people currently running from facebook to band.

really, it's like running away from jason voorhees and intentionally to freddy kreuger, expecting different results.

i mean. we here on lemmy already did this. we went from digg to reddit, we learned our lesson, and came to lemmy. so to constantly advertise bluesky makes absolutely no sense. albeit i guess it's the same principle, people of twitter need to experience enshitification of bluesky before they learn and settle on the fediverse.

  • it's funny how here in Sweden the left has historically always been against immigration because of fear of breaking labour balance. the right won the race under the "new right" slogan among young voters; immediately invited millions of immigrants - there are literal interviews where the left still says they are against immigration while the right says they are pro immigration, as well as the right-wing economist saying in an interview that immigration will help higher competition among workers which will let employers lower wages and strain the welfare system so it can be dismabtled. immigration in turn had all the effects expected plus a huge upswing in crime, and the right then went out in media saying it's the left who brought all the immigrants here while the left is defending themselves by saying the immigrants are here now and we have to take care of them; which just reinforces the lie that the left invited all immigrants - and all this has accumulated to the nazi party getting a shit ton of votes and are now kicking out essential workers en masse who are all the immigrants they can touch (aka. non-problem immigrants, because the problematic immigrants can't be touched), and just talking statistics about their success of booting people out of the country while our healthcare and service field collapses. which i no doubt they will somehow blame on the left even if the left currently has no power.

it's just funny how the left is always to blame for rightwing shenanigans.

  • I keep extinct in the wild and critically endangered species of fish in my aquariums and am a member of a couple of fish focused associations who work with universities for the goal of preservation of species. been considering getting into red listed frogs and cactus, but the communities are smaller (so less access to species) and space is a premium when living in an apartment.

i wish there was more exposure of this hobby because it's such an affordable, easy and "low effort" thing to do, but a lot of people who care about the environment and animals basically get offended when you keep animals "locked up" in an aquarium. in my opinion, serious aquarists (not the pet store furniture mentality) are invaluable, as a lot of species has been saved from extinction through aquarist efforts and university collaboration to reintroduce them to their native ranges after restoration work is completed (at least Lenoardo DiCaprio made a little bit of social media impact for one of the associations in 2022).

I should add, overfishing is not the leading cause for extinction in freshwater fish, it's pollution from agriculture, as the vast majority of fish threatened with extinction have no utility to us (or bright enough colors to benefit the commercial pet trade - brightly colored species are generally not even found in the wild, and have their colors from decades of selective breeding by dedicated aquarists).

  • evidently, as this election proved, it's not like voting on the lesser of two evils worked either. better to vote for a third party who actually stands on the side of the people.

  • those are just rebranded chrome(ium). all browsers except firefox and safari are rebranded chromium or firefox. edit: there are some other projects but none are mature.

  • It probably doesn't hold up. The idea of overpopulation is wrong because the west is suffering a birth crisis while the third world is having a child boom. It's not that more children are being born, it's that their standards are being improved so more of them survive. They in turn will level out and see less children born the better their standards become; so it's reasonable to assume if standards are collapsing in the west, then in a generation or so, more children will be born.

  • I've said this a million times, but it's definitely about time we stop spending taxes on a rogue entity across the ocean who definitely does not have our best interests in mind. I'm not convinced it's even legal and I don't understand why the legal prospects have never been brought up about this fucking situation. R&D money should not go to a foreign corporation. In addition, I (and pretty much everyone else on the planet) already paid for microsofts products and services so my government can use it (against my will), so why the fuck do they get away with setting a public price at all? It should legally be free or the governments shouldn't need to pay for it in the first place, and it should legally be open source because it's publicly funded. There are just so many problems with the entire idea of our government using Windows, Office, and their services.

  • most software is web based and OS-agnostic so there is no destruction and rebuilding happening, and for everything else, FOSS is literally free. How is it expensive to switch from X with a monthly cost to X that is free? Even if things breaks initially, the cost would equalize and long-term be considerably reduced.

  • There is no learning curve. Where have you been over the past 7 or 8 years?

  • It's just funny how there are 3 ways you can vote on Trump. 1. Not voting. 2. Voting third party/optional. 3. Actually voting for him. But there is only one way you can not vote on him, and that's voting Harris. The Democrats have really set this up to make it a boom or bust strategy, and the Republicans reap all the benefits.

  • Oh man, talk about bringing me back in time. My first card was a voodoo 2.
