  • I hope steam is broken up. Monopolies and DRM are never in the users favor.

  • Except the first Suicide Squad.

The heck? That movie's trailer slaps hard.

  • Yet they scream when their 6 months old un-updated windows install wants then to update

The problem isn't the OS being out of date I wouldn't think, it's the applications they actually use. Flatpaks are kind of a solution but not really.

  • It's a hard sell explaining to new people that they will have software up to a couple years out of date.

  • the recipe may be visible to all, but the chef’s expertise in crafting and adapting the dish, as well as the dining experience provided, is what customers pay for.

I mean, you cant ctrl+c ctrl+v the dish. That's the difference. If anyone could ctrl+c ctrl+v meals I think most restaurants would go bankrupt. Right?

  • When software is open-source and monetized, it strikes a critical balance. Users gain the freedoms associated with FOSS – the liberty to run, modify, and share – while developers receive the financial recognition for their contributions.

I never understood how these two concepts can coexist.

Lets say you made something FOSS and sold it to one person. Can't that person just... redistribute it for free? Which kinda makes you trying to make a living out of selling it much much more difficult or downright impossible?

  • Destiny

When I first played I had a wiki open on my second monitor for about the first month I was playing.

Love the game. One of my favorites. And the artwork and music are second to none.

It definitely has the worst onboarding experience ever though.

    BG3

It does have deep systems. But you can just pick what feels right to you and the game will accommodate you.

    It's a masterpiece.

  • The only problem this site has is lack of content. And the only thing that would fix it is more people.

  • No, we are sad because the decrease in posts lately have left behind the worst parts of reddit.

    How so?

  • sudo XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=/run/user/1000 DISPLAY=:0 DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS=/run/user/1000/bus XAUTHORITY=/home/caseyweederman/.Xauthority gedit

    Reported for hacking.

  • Does ’sudo gedit’ not work?

If my memory doesn't fail me it used to. But gedit isnt the default text editor anymore. The new one is quite cool and clean.

It doesnt work with sudo though sadly. It's not the biggest problem tho, just a small annoyance, using the occasional sudo nano to edit files isnt a big deal.

  • I wish I could just edit text files as sudo with the default gnome text editor instead.

  • Is it linux not working or hardware with shitty proprietary driver issues?

I don't think a single one of my current issues are driver related.

You are right about that though. When Ive tried using Linux with a Nvidia GPU before and it was unusable.

  • I really, really, really hate all the spying that gets done by commercial software and would rather deal with the problems that crop up using Linux than feeding a bunch of sociopathic billionaires even more data.

This is the big one for me.

Entirely agree with this whole comment though.

  • It does have quite a bit of problems, bugs and fails at the basics more often than not.

I kinda feel like I'm being gaslit whenever I bring it up and people say it "just works".

    Because. Well. It doesn't.

  • I love the idea of kdeconnect but it wreaks havoc on my battery, on both phone and laptop.
